NEW DELHI | Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and MCD Leader of Opposition (LoP) Ankush Narang has written to the Water Minister and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO (Chief Executive Officer) over sewer overflow, open drains and waterlogging in Ranjit Nagar Ward 87 of West Patel Nagar. He said the problems had severely affected local residents, with stagnant dirty water and foul odour posing serious health risks. He demanded immediate sewer cleaning, the closure of open drains and a permanent solution to waterlogging and drainage. He also called for accountability and strict action against negligent Delhi Jal Board officials.
In his letter, senior AAP leader and MCD LoP Ankush Narang said, “A serious sewer-related problem faced by residents of West Patel Nagar and Ranjit Nagar Ward No. 87 has come to my attention. The area has been facing sewer overflow, open drains, the spread of dirty water and waterlogging for a long time. As a result, local residents are facing considerable difficulties, while the accumulation of dirt and foul smell has created serious health risks in the area.”
He further said, “Local residents have lodged complaints several times with the concerned department and its employees. Despite this, the concerned employees have failed to take the necessary action to resolve the problem. The continued neglect of these complaints is extremely unfortunate and concerning.”
Ankush Narang demanded that the sewer overflow problem in the area be resolved immediately. He called for all open drains to be closed and made safe on priority, and for dirty water to be drained immediately from waterlogged areas. “The sewer lines must be thoroughly cleaned and repaired wherever necessary. The concerned officials and employees who failed to act on complaints previously lodged by residents must be held accountable,” he said.
Ankush Narang further demanded, “The area should be inspected, a permanent solution to the problem must be ensured, and proper arrangements should be made to prevent the issue from recurring in the future.” He urged the Water Minister and DJB CEO to treat the matter as a priority in the public interest, ensure immediate action and obtain an action-taken report from the concerned officials.
