The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has issued a clarion call over the toxic air engulfing Delhi and vast parts of North India, with National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia holding both the Centre and the Delhi Government responsible for failing to protect citizens from rapidly worsening air pollution.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to ‘X’ and wrote: “Clean air and clean water are the basic rights of every citizen. The air in Delhi and across North India has become poisonous, and instead of giving solutions, the government is collecting taxes from the public. People go to buy air purifiers to protect their families from pollution, and then they find out that the government is charging 18% GST (Goods and Services Tax) on it. This is outright injustice. I urge the Central Government to immediately remove the GST imposed on air and water purifiers. If you cannot provide solutions, then at least stop putting a burden on the pockets of the people.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X: “International Shame. ‘Farziwada’ in AQI (Air Quality Index) data reaches next level, new AQI stations will be installed in forest areas of Delhi to bring average ‘AQI data’ down. This BJP government is only worried about data, not about pollution and your health.”
Meanwhile, former Deputy CM and AAP Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia stated on X: “If you cannot remove the smoke, then at least remove the GST. Saheb, give some relief.”
