AAP Delhi State Convenor Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday pointed out Delhi Police’s blatant bias in handling criminal cases, slamming the BJP for shielding offenders while targeting political opponents. He said that while the police swiftly arrested the attacker of CM Rekha Gupta and booked him under attempt-to-murder charges, they have not even filed an FIR in the case of AAP Councilor Gagan Chaudhary, who was assaulted by a history-sheeter inside the Chairman’s office in full view of CCTV cameras. The AAP Delhi Unit Chief further highlighted that similar inaction followed the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal, emboldening assailants and fueling a surge in crime under the BJP-led Centre’s “dirty politics.”Addressing a press conference along with Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha, AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj pointed to the attack on CM Rekha Gupta, stating, “In this case, police immediately registered an FIR under attempt to murder and today even secured a five-day remand. We welcome this swift action. But when similar attacks were carried out on Arvind Kejriwal, never once was an attempt to murder case registered.”He continued, “This clearly sent a message encouraging attackers that police would not take strict action. Before the Delhi elections, someone threw ink at Arvind Kejriwal, yet no case was filed and that person was instantly released. This is why crime is rising in Delhi, because the central government’s policy is openly promoting such incidents.”Referring to a recent incident involving Burari councillor Gagan Chaudhary, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “He was present in the Civil Lines Zone Chairman’s office when a notorious ‘tadipaar’ (exiled) criminal attacked him. This man had already been banned by police from entering the city for one year and has dozens of criminal cases registered against him. “Yet, not only did he manage to enter Delhi, he even assaulted an elected councillor inside the Chairman’s office. Shockingly, police have not even filed an FIR in this case. Such a criminal attacks a councillor, but due to the central government’s low-level politics, police have failed to register a case to this day,” he added.Highlighting the same incident, Burari MLA and AAP Delhi Unit Vice President Sanjeev Jha said, “Councillor Gagan Chaudhary was attacked inside the supposedly secure Chairman’s office. The attacker is a ‘tadipaar’ with 12 cases and 35 criminal sections registered against him.” He asserted, “Not only was this man present inside the office, but he was brought there by none other than the personal secretary of North-East Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari. The MP’s personal secretary drove this criminal into the office, served him refreshments, and when the councillor arrived, the attack took place. Even after four days, no FIR has been registered in this matter.”Drawing a sharp comparison, Sanjeev Jha said, “In the Chief Minister’s case, police immediately filed an attempt to murder case, but in the case of an elected councillor being attacked, no action has been taken. The councillor has been repeatedly going to the police station, but neither the Station House Officer (SHO) is available, nor has the Deputy Commissioner of Police given him a hearing. Two completely different approaches to the same type of incidents clearly show that BJP is protecting criminals.”Asserting the next step, Sanjeev Jha said, “We have video footage of the entire incident. We demand that Delhi Police immediately register an FIR. We are also seeking an appointment with the Police Commissioner to present the full details. At the same time, I want to tell North-East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari to stop shielding criminals and stop giving protection to crime.”
