In just 40 days, BJP has wrecked Delhi’s well-functioning electricity system; people of Delhi are watching everything: Atishi

In a scathing rebuttal to Delhi’s BJP government, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, dismantled Power Minister Ashish Sood’s claims, exposing how the BJP had wrecked Delhi’s well-functioning electricity system. She slammed the BJP for pushing the capital into a power crisis within weeks.

The Delhi Assembly LoP asserted that Delhi had uninterrupted power under AAP (as confirmed by the Centre’s own data), over 50 cases prove the power cuts aren’t scheduled, and even BJP’s own supporters are up in arms. Citing Union Power Ministry data, Atishi reminded that Delhi’s DISCOMs ranked among the best in India under AAP. “If any government ensured the best electricity supply, it was AAP in Delhi,” she declared.

In a video conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP, Atishi, stated, “For the past month, Delhi’s power supply has been in complete disarray. No matter which part of the city you go to, power cuts are happening repeatedly and continuously. Today, in the Delhi Assembly, Power Minister Ashish Sood attempted to cover up his government’s failure with a series of blatant lies. I will now expose each of these lies one by one.”

The Delhi Assembly LoP noted, “The first lie Ashish Sood told was that under the AAP government led by Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi did not have a 24-hour electricity supply. I would like to show Ashish Sood the data presented in the Rajya Sabha on February 3, 2025, by the Union Power Minister. These figures, provided by the central government itself, confirm that Delhi had round-the-clock electricity. This is not my data, nor is it from the AAP—these are official figures presented by the central government in Parliament, proving that Delhi had an uninterrupted power supply.”

The former Delhi CM pointed out that similarly, the Union Ministry of Power publishes an annual report titled Consumer Service Rating of DISCOMs, which evaluates the performance of power distribution companies across the country. This report assesses aspects such as power supply consistency, power cuts, ease of getting meters installed, and operational reliability.

“The data for 2023-24 from the Ministry of Power ranked Delhi’s DISCOMs as the top three in the entire country in terms of operational reliability and 24-hour power supply. If any government in India ensured the best electricity supply, it was the AAP government in Delhi. This completely exposes Ashish Sood’s first lie—using the central government’s own data,” she highlighted.

Atishi asserted that the second lie Ashish Sood told was that the ongoing power cuts in Delhi are not due to the BJP government’s failure and mismanagement but are instead scheduled power cuts. I challenge Ashish Sood on this claim. I will now present data on power cuts that have occurred since March 1, and I challenge him to prove that even one of them was a scheduled power cut. These figures are not mine; they come from the Delhi government’s State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) website.

Atishi challenged Power Minister Ashish Sood—if even one of these 50+ power cuts was a scheduled power cut. The truth is that these figures are from the BJP-led Delhi government’s own State Load Dispatch Center, which proves that these are unscheduled power cuts. This exposes Ashish Sood’s second lie.

The Delhi Assembly LoP asserted that his third lie is that AAP workers and bots are tweeting about power cuts. Just because BJP runs its social media with bots does not mean everyone else does the same. Let me give you some examples.

•⁠ ⁠Harish Kumar, who tweeted about power cuts in Nangloi, is not an AAP worker. His previous tweets show him hurling abuses at Arvind Kejriwal and celebrating BJP’s victories.

•⁠ ⁠Nitin Sharma, likely a BJP functionary, tweeted last year against Arvind Kejriwal and now complains about unnecessary power cuts by BSES.

•⁠ ⁠Prasanjit Ghosh from Karawal Nagar, a BJP office-bearer, previously mocked Arvind Kejriwal and now complains about three-hour-long power cuts.

•⁠ ⁠BJP supporters, who once campaigned against Arvind Kejriwal, are now tweeting about power cuts in Om Vihar, Peer Baba Road, and other areas.

Addressing Power Minister Ashish Sood, the Delhi Assembly LoP stated, “The people reporting power cuts on social media are not AAP workers; they are BJP supporters—the very people who voted for you. And now, instead of fixing the issue, you are threatening legal action against those raising their voices. Let me tell you this: Delhi’s people will not be silenced by your threats. If there are power cuts, the citizens will protest, no matter how many lies you tell or how many threats you issue.”

“Once again, I am reiterating that Power Minister Ashish Sood’s all three lies have been busted. Delhi had 24-hour electricity under the AAP government—this is confirmed by the central government’s own data. The power cuts happening now are not scheduled, as proven by 50+ documented cases. The people complaining about power cuts are not AAP workers—they are BJP’s own supporters. In just 40 days, BJP has wrecked Delhi’s previously well-functioning electricity system.
