Biography
Gopal Rai currently serves as a Cabinet Minister for Rural Development, General Administration Department, Environment, Forest and Wildlife in the Delhi Government. He also serves as the Convener of the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi.
During his student days at Lucknow University, Rai actively participated in campaigns against corruption and crime on college campuses. His commitment led to a challenging incident where he was shot, resulting in partial paralysis. Undeterred, he continued his fight against injustice.
In his ministerial role, Rai fulfilled party promises, notably raising minimum wages in Delhi, a move hailed as historic. Addressing the plight of labourers, he increased minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers, reflecting his dedication to social justice.
Appointed as Delhi Convener in May 2017, Rai initiated organisational reforms within the state, contributing to the Aam Aadmi Party’s growth.
Gopal Rai holds a postgraduate degree in Sociology from Lucknow University. His journey encapsulates resilience and commitment to improving the lives of Delhi’s residents.
