The camp was organised by Rotary Club of Delhi in association with BridgingThe Gap Foundation. Somnath Bharti was among the first to have donated the blood at the camp and encouraged others to come forward and donate. All three local councillors and MLA of the adjoining Mehrauli constituency Naresh Yadav also participated in the blood donation drive that was organised from 10 AM in the morning till 4:30 PM in the evening. A huge number of volunteers and residents from every colony of Malviya Nagar assembly constituency came forward to donate blood and this year’s blood donation drive concluded with record success. Somnath Bharti said that these efforts like blood donation drive are inspired by Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal to live for the cause of the people. He also felicitated the blood donors with blood donation cards, certificates and souvenirs.

Most successful blood donation drive this year

DJB Vice Chairman and local MLA Somnath Bharti said that people have come forward in huge numbers to donate blood. The camp is also meant to disseminate the idea that we should serve the entire humanity whenever required. The blood donation started at 10 AM and went on till 4:30 PM. Last year we had donated 62 units of blood and this time we would be looking at 150 units with ease. He said that when we have good intentions to serve mankind, then God listens and clears the path for us. Today, all three local councillors of the area namely Mr Kamal Bhardwaj from ward 148 Hauz Khas, Ms Leena Kumar from ward 149 Malviya Nagar and Ms Sarita Phogaat from ward 150 Green Park and volunteers have worked tirelessly to make the blood donation drive a success. When you are doing a work with absolutely good intentions, then people also participate in full vigour. We also invited the MLAs of the adjoining assembly constituencies along with their party workers. He said that the response at the blood donation camp was so overwhelming that there was a shortage of blood bags.

The DJB Vice Chairman and Malviya Nagar MLA also said that today the public is enthusiastic about blood donation. A lot of awareness was generated about the blood donation camp in the area and many youth have come forward. Some people have also come from Telangana to donate blood. This kind of environment should be created in the entire country. As people, we must care for each other; when our neighbour is happy then only we can be happy.

Donors felicitated with blood donation cards/certificates

Somnath Bharti also felicitated the donors or volunteers with blood donation cards and certificates. He informed that in times of health emergencies, these blood donation cards could be shown to any blood bank in any part of the country to get the same units of blood for patients. It’s a cushion in times of health emergencies. He also said that if we keep donating blood on a regular basis then after attaining the age of 60 also we can donate blood.

Blood donation camp to be an annual feature; Annual calendar also in making

Last time we organised the blood donation camp on August 16, the birth date of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ji. We were trying to organize this time on September 27, the birthday of Shahid-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. We want to make this into an annual feature that will be organised each year either on the birthday of Arvind Kejriwal or Bhagat Singh. We want to make an entire calendar through Bridging The Gap Foundation under which other programmes will also be organised related with other health check-ups, environmental works etc.

People from all areas participate in blood donation drive

Somnath Bharti praised the work of all workers and volunteers. He said that humility is the greatest virtue given by the god. If we request anyone with humility, the person will volunteer for blood donation. Our workers worked whole heartedly to make this blood donation camp a success. People have come to donate blood from all areas like Green Park, Gulmohar Park, Neeti Bagh, Hauz Khas, Uday Park, Shivalik, Masjid Moth, Gautam Nagar, Humayunpur etc. There is no colony in the constituency from where people have not come to donate blood. Mehrauli MLA Naresh Yadav also participated in the drive. Somnath Barti said that these blood donation camps are necessary for humanity. This entire drive is inspired by our leader Shri Arvind Kejriwal ji – to serve the people, be dedicated to the common cause and suffer for the people. We have learnt a lot from him.

All healthy people should donate blood; it’s a cause for the humanity

Somnath Bharti said that we organise this blood donation camp every year. I have seen the emergencies like the Covid pandemic when the donors were less and demand for blood was high. Hence, I believe that whenever a person is in healthy condition, he should donate blood so that it becomes a healthy practice and there is no shortage of blood in times of emergencies like Covid and accidents. Persons of all faiths like Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Christians volunteered to donate blood today. Somnath Barthi also said that I asked the doctors whether blood of a person belonging to one religion can be given to another who belongs to another religion. The doctors said it could be done. Hence, when God has not created any difference, then who are we to differentiate between people and divide the society. Blood is a great example in the democracy of India – “blood of all is for all.”
