Delhi has once again been dragged back to the horrors of Nirbhaya. Under the BJP’s so-called “four engine government” that constantly speaks of women’s safety, a woman was gangraped inside a moving bus on the streets of the national capital. Shockingly, the bus kept moving for nearly two hours within a seven kilometre stretch while the Delhi Police failed to stop or check it anywhere along the route. The incident has triggered sharp reactions from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and several senior AAP leaders, who described the crime as another chilling reminder of Delhi’s deepening law and order crisis.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal wrote on ‘X,’ “Once again, a gangrape has taken place in a moving bus in Delhi. We learnt nothing from Nirbhaya. This incident is a blot on the entire society.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “It is extremely shameful that the Nirbhaya incident has been repeated in Delhi. A 30 year old woman was abducted at night from a bus stop on the pretext of asking for the time, after which several men gangraped her inside a moving bus for nearly two hours. The bus kept roaming for nearly 7 kilometres in Delhi’s Rani Bagh area.”
He added, “What else can be expected from the Delhi Police, whose chief, the LG, wants Delhiites to watch his reels of eating chole bhature and jalebi? The LG does not even have the time to meet us over the rape of a three year old schoolgirl.”
In another post on X, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The driver and conductor gangraped the woman inside the moving bus. Why did the Delhi Police share this information with the media so late? What was the reason behind this delay? Did the police want to suppress the rape incident? Was the police trying to pressure the survivor, suppress the matter, or did it want to inform the media only after arresting the accused so that it could claim the police had solved the case?”
Questioning the government’s priorities, he stated, “The entire government runs on reels. Our objection is not to making reels, but to editing and presenting them according to their convenience. Delhiites are not the government’s audience. But today, the BJP has reduced the citizens and voters of Delhi to merely an audience that is expected to keep liking their reels.”
The AAP Delhi Chief further asked the Delhi Police, “What kind of law and order is this where a bus kept roaming for two hours in a central Delhi area like Rani Bagh while a girl was gangraped inside and later thrown onto the road? After that, the incident was allegedly hidden for two days. The Aam Aadmi Party wants to know why this was done. Why was this incident hidden, and what steps are being taken to ensure that such an incident is not repeated?”
He added, “This means the Delhi Police has now also started doing media management. In a state where the LG, police and Chief Minister are busy with media management and the entire government is occupied with making reels, what else can happen? The public is their master, and they are accountable to the public. They cannot decide what kind of reels they will make and show to the people. We have questions, and they will have to answer them.”
Raising the issue again with the Delhi Police Commissioner, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “What kind of law and order is this where a bus kept moving around the city for two hours? Rani Bagh is not some remote area, it is in central Delhi. The bus kept roaming, a girl was gangraped for two hours inside it, and then she was thrown onto the road. Even after this, the news was hidden for two days. We want to ask the Commissioner why this incident was hidden and what is being done to ensure that such an incident never happens again.”
On the other hand, former Delhi Deputy CM and AAP Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia took to ‘X’ and wrote, “Another Nirbhaya incident in Delhi. Another gangrape in a moving bus. All the BJP’s engines in Delhi have completely failed. Girls are not safe in schools, nor are they safe in buses.”
Meanwhile, former Delhi CM leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi expressed deep anguish and anger over Delhi’s law and order situation. She said, “It is extremely painful and shameful that a horrific scene like Nirbhaya has once again been witnessed in Delhi. Brutality continued for two hours inside a moving bus in Rani Bagh, but the BJP government’s priority remains limited to reels and branding instead of accountability. Criminals have become so fearless that they no longer fear the law. How long will the daughters and sisters of Delhi continue to live under the fear of BJP’s misgovernance?”
