The Delhi Cabinet of Ministers under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal today approved power subsidy scheme for 2024-25 with a continued commitment to provide free electricity, that too with round-the-clock supply.

The decision has brought great relief to lakhs of power consumers of Delhi. Nearly 22 lakh families who consume up to 200 units of electricity will continue to get zero bills, while those who consume up to 400 units will get 50% subsidy on their bill. CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the people of Delhi and said that the free electricity scheme has been extended till March 31, 2025.

Meanwhile, Shri Arvind Kejriwal shared on his ‘X’ handle: “I congratulate the people of Delhi very much. Your 24 hours electricity (zero power cut) and free electricity has been extended till 31st March 2025. This also includes free electricity for the lawyers’ chambers. Many people had doubts about the electricity subsidy _ will it be available next year or not? Let me tell you that these people tried their best to stop it. But your son (Arvind Kejriwal) got this work done also.

For your information, let me tell you that 24 hours electricity and free electricity is available only in Delhi and Punjab. In the rest of the country, there are long power cuts and electricity bills worth thousands of rupees have to be paid. Because there is a government of honest and educated people in Delhi.”

Briefing the media, Power Minister Atishi stated, “The Kejriwal Government has been providing power subsidies to the people of Delhi for the past 9 years. Delhi is the only state where 24*7 power supply is ensured. Despite that, 22 lakh people receive a zero-electricity bill. It’s known that our opponents try to obstruct every policy of the Kejriwal Government.”

She added that whenever CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal attempts to make decisions for the welfare of Delhi people, opponents employ various tactics to hinder them. Last year, when the power subsidy was about to be implemented, opponents made significant efforts to halt it. At one point, we even had to announce that the power subsidy would be discontinued, added Atishi.

The Power Minister mentioned, “This year too, they were attempting to thwart the Kejriwal Government’s power subsidy. They contacted officials, issued threats, and tried to disrupt the zero electricity bills for the people of Delhi. However, as known, if CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal has promised something to the people of Delhi, he will fulfill his promise at any cost.”

“I am pleased to share that, like every year, the power subsidy for the people of Delhi will continue this year as well. The Delhi Cabinet of Ministers approved this proposal today. People will keep receiving zero electricity bills for usage up to 200 units and a 50% discount for usage up to 400 units. Farmers, advocates and 1984 riot victims will also continue to receive their subsidies,” added Atishi.
