Aam Aadmi Party Delhi State Convenor and Cabinet Minister Shri Gopal Rai today announced that the party will launch a campaign, ‘Ghar bachao, BJP hatao’, beginning January 14 against the BJP-ruled central government’s policy to render Delhi’s slum-dwellers homeless.

He said the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled central government has issued directions to its various agencies to intensify the drive to make those living in JJ (jhuggi jhopri) clusters and unauthorised colonies homeless. Supporting his accusation, he gave the examples of the demolitions carried out in Mehrauli and Dhaula Kuan last year and once again through the misuse of its agencies, they are bent upon this machination in this biting cold.

Shri Rai said sometime back, Railway has issued notice for demolition of shanties in Sarojini Nagar which was got stayed by Chief Minister through court.

Shri Rai said he has learnt that under the New Delhi assembly constituency, DDA pasted notices at the BR Camp and DIP Camp, a survey is on and in a few days, a drive to render them homeless will start.

“While on the one hand, the BJP says “Jahan jhuggi, wahan makan”, (a house in place of a shanty), on the other hand it makes them homeless without making an alternate arrangement. This, despite repeated questioning by the courts on government’s rehabilitation plan for the slum-dwellers before evicting them. But the BJP hates the poor and it doesn’t understand how poor people live and in one stroke bulldozers render thousands of people homeless in a day,” said the AAP Delhi State Convenor.

He said it has been decided at a meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs held today to start a campaign, Ghar bachao, BJP hatao, across Delhi from January 14 to January 21 to protest this BJP-led drive. “Our MLAs and Councillors will create awareness through nukkad sabhas in various slum colonies across Delhi against the BJP and Centre’s drive. Our campaign will end with a demonstration at 12 noon outside the BJP headquarters on January 21. Tomorrow, January 14, we will hold nukkad sabhas at BR Camp and DIP Camp under the New Delhi assembly constituency.
