NEW DELHI | The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned three BJP MPs for paying tribute to Sajjan Kumar, a convict in the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom, and demanded strict action against them from BJP National President Nitin Nabin. AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj said the MPs had reopened the wounds of the Sikh community by paying tribute to those responsible for the killings of innocent Sikhs.
The AAP Delhi Chief questioned whether Nitin Nabin would suspend MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Yogender Chandolia and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, while also asking why Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal remained silent instead of speaking against the BJP.
On Saturday, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X, “Some people say that during the anti-Sikh pogrom in Delhi, local BJP and RSS leaders helped the Congress target innocent Sikh families on the streets of Delhi. Is this why top BJP leaders in Delhi are showing so much sympathy towards Sajjan Kumar? Will Nitin Nabin suspend these BJP MPs who have stabbed the Sikhs in the back?”
He added, “BJP MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Yogender Chandolia and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri still have a soft corner for Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom. Why are Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal not speaking out against the BJP?”
Meanwhile, Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh stated, “The BJP has once again made its position on the 1984 Sikh ‘massacre’ clear. The fact that senior Delhi BJP leaders and three MPs, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Yogender Chandolia, went there after Sajjan Kumar’s death, shed tears and paid tribute to him makes it clear that they have no sympathy for the victims of 1984.”
He asserted, “They are mourning the death of Sajjan Kumar, the killer who destroyed thousands of homes, shattered thousands of families and left thousands of children orphaned. BJP leaders are going there to mourn and grieve over his death.”
Drawing a distinction between the Congress and BJP’s response, the AAP MLA said, “The Congress was the mastermind behind the Sikh massacre, and it is understandable that its leaders would pay tribute to him because he was their leader. But the presence of BJP leaders there is extremely shameful.”
He added, “The BJP’s truth has come to light before as well. They have conferred awards such as the Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan on senior RSS leaders like Nanaji Deshmukh, who wrote articles such as ‘Moments of Soul Searching’ seeking to justify the 1984 Sikh massacre.”
Concluding, Jarnail Singh stated, “It has now become completely clear to Sikhs that the BJP was hand in glove with the killers of Sikhs and remains hand in glove with them even today.”
