Every year Van Mahotsav program is held by the Kejriwal government to promote the green area in Delhi. This year, all Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi will host celebrations for the Van Mahotsav program, which began on July 9 at IARI Pusa. It has been decided to hold the second Van Mahotsav program on July 23 at Dwarka Mela Ground in the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency to encourage tree planting. During the program, members of RWA and children and teachers of the Eco Club of West Delhi Lok Sabha will be present. Along with this, the work of distribution of free medicinal plants will also be done during the Van Mahotsav.

Environment and Forest Minister Shri Gopal Rai said, “Pollution in Delhi is always present as a big challenge. After the formation of our government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, continuous work has been done to reduce the pollution level of Delhi. As a result of all those measures, there has been a steady decline in the level of pollution inside Delhi and a considerable increase in green cover has been observed inside Delhi. Moving forward in this direction, to give impetus to the tree plantation campaign included in the 14 points of the Summer Action Plan, the second Van Mahotsav program will be held at the Dwarka Mela Ground of West Delhi Lok Sabha, taking forward the Van Mahotsav program which began from IARI Pusa on 9th July. This year, our government will celebrate Van Mahotsav with the whole of Delhi by planting trees and distributing saplings in different Lok Sabha constituencies of Delhi on every Sunday for the whole 7 weeks. Members of West Delhi Lok Sabha’s RWA and children and teachers of Eco Clubs will also be present during this program.”

Shri Rai continued, “We had to postpone the Van Mahotsav event scheduled for the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency on July 16 due to the flood-like conditions in Delhi that resulted from the Yamuna’s rising water level last week. But now that life in Delhi is mostly back to normal, we have chosen to conduct the second Van Mahotsav program at Dwarka Mela Ground in the West Delhi Lok Sabha Constituency. Additionally, a new date for the postponed Van Mahotsav program for the North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will be announced shortly.”

Shri Rai added, “Every year, a tree plantation campaign is conducted to increase Delhi’s green belt and reduce pollution. Since the second term of the Kejriwal government, starting from 2020 until 2022-23, a total of 1 crore 18 lakh saplings have been planted. This year also, our government has set a target of planting 52 lakh saplings, which will be accomplished by the green agencies of 21 concerned departments. Apart from this, NDMC will plant about 50 lakh saplings/shrub.”

Shri Rai stated that in this Van Mahotsav program, the government would also provide free medicinal saplings to the residents of Delhi, encouraging their participation. Free medicinal saplings will be distributed from 14 government nurseries in Delhi so that people can contribute to the enhancement of Delhi’s green cover by planting trees in their own homes.

Shri Rai appealed to the people of Delhi, requesting their participation in this tree plantation campaign. He said, “The government is making efforts at its level. But we have confidence that together we will make this tree plantation campaign a success and fight against pollution in Delhi with even greater strength.”
