Biography
Satyendar Jain is the former Minister of Health, Industries, Power, Public Works Department, Home, and Urban Development, he has represented the Shakur Basti constituency in the Delhi Assembly since February 2015. Starting as an architect at CPWD, he ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing an Architectural Consultancy firm. His work as the health minister of Delhi is internationally praised by leaders of the United Nations. The effective use of porta cabins for Mohalla clinic was his brainchild which played a pivotal role in strengthing tertiary health care in a city like Delhi.
Dedicated to social causes, Jain played a pivotal role in the Jan Lokpal Movement against corruption, leading him to quit his career in earnest pursuit of the cause. His vision for healthcare prioritises universalising primary care through Mohalla clinics, with over 160 already operational and more in progress.
The AAP government’s achievement in this initiative gained international acclaim, with leaders like Kofi Annan and Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland praising the project’s goal of providing free public healthcare. Jain’s commitment to Universal Health Care received commendation, positioning the project as a potential model for other Indian states.
Satyendar Jain holds a graduate degree and is a qualified architect. His journey reflects a pragmatic approach to governance, focusing on tangible improvements in healthcare for the people of Delhi.
