Biography
Rakhi Birla, a former journalist turned politician, is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party’s National Executive. In the 2013 Assembly election, she clinched victory in the Mangolpuri constituency, defeating INC’s Raj Kumar Chauhan, a four-time MLA, by a margin of around 10,500 votes.
During AAP’s brief 49-day stint in the Delhi Assembly, Rakhi served as the Minister of Women and Children, Social Welfare, and Languages from December 28, 2013, to February 14, 2014. Notably, she became the youngest-ever cabinet minister in Delhi. Rakhi Birla is currently the youngest Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, showcasing her rising prominence in the AAP.
She graduated from Delhi University’s Shivaji College, pursued her Master’s in Mass Communication, and worked as a reporter for a private news channel before venturing into politics. Her journey reflects a seamless transition from working with the media to public service.
