Senior AAP Leader and MP Sanjay Singh, lambasted the BJP after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent praises for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Rajya Sabha MP questioned the PM’s intentions behind such effusive praise for the CBI and pointed out several instances where the organisation has allegedly been used as a tool by the ruling government. He also raised questions on the CBI’s integrity and impartiality, pointing out its alleged role in toppling governments, creating fake cases, and intimidating and jailing the ruling party’s political opponents.

Sanjay Singh said, “On the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), PM Modi expressed eloquent praise for the CBI. Certainly, on such an occasion, it is necessary to think that the Prime Minister of India is praising the CBI for its actual working style and performance, or is it being praised solely because the investigating agency is now in the PM’s pocket? What is the reason behind such effusive praise? Is the Prime Minister praising the CBI now because he is satisfied that it acts like a puppet at his behest?”

The senior AAP leader played a video where PM Modi, during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat, had called the CBI the “Congress Bureau of Investigation” and alleged that it was the biggest tool in the ongoing conspiracies against his government. The Supreme Court of India had also called the CBI a “caged parrot” of the ruling government, Sanjay Singh added.

The Rajya Sabha MP reminded the people, “Since the establishment of the CBI, there had been no instance of sealing the office of its Director, until under the leadership of PM Modi in 2018, the office of CBI Director Shri Alok Kumar Verma was sealed.” He pointed out that this was allegedly done because the CBI Director had files related to the alleged Rafale scam and was about to initiate an investigation into the same. “This action was taken by the PM with no consideration for following rules and regulations, and as far as I am aware, all of Verma’s retirement dues, including pension, leave encashment, medical entitlement, gratuity, etc., have been denied to him till date,” he added.

The Rajya Sabha MP questioned the CBI’s impartiality and raised concerns over its alleged role in toppling governments, creating fake cases, and intimidating and jailing the ruling party’s political opponents. Addressing PM Modi, Shri Sanjay Singh said, “Today, when the same CBI started dancing to your tunes and forcibly arresting your political opponents, the CBI, which you used to curse, has become a paragon of virtue for you.”

He also hit back at PM Narendra Modi’s praise of the CBI’s action towards curbing black money, questioning the CBI’s lack of action against fugitive businessmen like Lalit Modi, Mehul Choksi, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, and Nitin Sandesara. “Despite evidence of Narendra Modi’s friend Gautam Adani operating six companies at a single address in Mauritius and investing Rs 42,000 crore of black money in his Indian companies, the CBI has failed to take any action against it,” he added.

“I understand that the way the PM has praised the CBI is because the Prime Minister is using the CBI in the same way as the previous ruling government, i.e., as a ‘caged parrot’. Now PM Modi is making the same parrot dance at his behest now,” Sanjay Singh said.

In conclusion, the senior AAP leader asked PM Modi, to acknowledge the alleged misuse of the CBI by his party and government and not mislead the public with his false claims regarding the institution’s impartiality and integrity.
