The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called out the Modi Government for betraying Backward Classes on OBC Reservation Bill. In a fiery statement, Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh pointed out that PM Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are betraying the interests of backward classes by opposing a Private Member Bill advocating for OBC reservations based on population. The AAP MP charged that the BJP’s opposition reveals its true colors and the party is against Dalits, backward communities, minorities, youth, and women. The heated exchange in Parliament saw BJP MPs, led by Union Minister Piyush Goyal, resorting to threats and intimidation, highlighting the government’s lack of concern for marginalized groups, according to Sanjay Singh.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, in a press conference, said that what the BJP MPs did under the leadership of Minister Piyush Goyal in the country’s highest house is extremely shameful and unfortunate. It shows the arrogance and high-handedness of the ruling party. Explaining the reason for this arrogance and misbehavior, the AAP MP said that Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan brought a private member bill that reservation of OBCs should be given on the basis of their population. As soon as this bill was presented, the BJP became furious, their blood started boiling. The BJP feels that in the house of this country, how can there be a discussion on giving reservation to the OBCs on the basis of their numbers.
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP continued, “On Friday, in the Rajya Sabha, BJP MPs led by Minister Piyush Goyal misbehaved and behaved in a domineering manner, while Congress MP Neeraj Dangi was speaking. Whatever the BJP MPs did to Neeraj Dangi, who comes from the Dalit community, exposes the anti-Dalit-Adivasi-Backward face of the BJP in front of the whole country. Minister Piyush Goyal and BJP MPs had become so agitated that if the Chairperson had not intervened during that time yesterday, then perhaps the BJP MPs would have even started a fight in the House. The situation was brought under control after the Chairperson’s intervention.
“I want to ask PM Modi and BJP National President JP Nadda, why do you hate the backward class of the country so much? Why should there not be a caste census? Why should the backward class people not get reservation in proportion to their population. If this is being discussed, then the BJP MPs will misbehave and will not let the others speak. How does the Prime Minister want to conduct the proceedings of the House?” Sanjay Singh questioned.
The Rajya Sabha MP then showed the video of Congress MP Neeraj Dangi speaking on the OBC bill and said that the Speaker can be seen constantly stopping the BJP MPs from speaking. The entire BJP did not allow Congress MP Neeraj Dangi, who comes from the Dalit community, to speak. After making repeated requests to the BJP MPs to sit down, the Speaker was helpless and had to adjourn the House for an hour. After this, Sanjay Singh showed the video of the wrong statement made by Minister Piyush Goyal in the House and said that Piyush Goyal is saying that the opposition people created a ruckus. Whereas it is clearly visible in the video that when Congress MP Neeraj Dangi was speaking, the entire BJP was standing and protesting.
Reading out his tweet on X, he stated, “The anti-backward character of the Modi government was exposed in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP created a huge ruckus on the private member bill of SP MP Javed Ali Khan to give reservation on the basis of the number of backward classes and got the House adjourned. The BJP has always been and will always be against the backward, Dalits and tribals (Adivasis).”
“I tweeted this because BJP MPs did not allow Congress MP Neeraj Dangi from Dalit society to speak on the OBC bill. During that time, the Deputy Speaker (Smt. S Phangnon Konyak) who comes from the tribal society was repeatedly stopping the BJP people from shouting. However, the BJP MPs did not listen to her and insulted her. Finally, the House had to be adjourned for an hour. After this, Minister Piyush Goyal is making a false allegation against me that I have posted a wrong tweet. After this, the entire BJP stood up and started shouting at me and attacking me. If the Deputy Speaker was not there, then perhaps the BJP MPs would have even come to beat me up in the House itself. During this, a BJP MP shouted that I should be sent to jail,” Sanjay Singh stated.
The senior AAP leader said, “BJP MPs should show the fear of jail, lathi charging and lawsuits to someone else. Also, tell your masters that we are not the people who are scared of jail, lathi and lawsuits. Wherever there will be talk of the rights of the backward, Dalits, tribals (Adivasi), minorities and the deprived, the AAP will always speak up. The AAP has been formed to raise the voice of the marginalized sections of the society.”
Sanjay Singh, while showing the video of his speech given in the House on the issue of the controversy over OBC reservation, stated, “The BJP is against Dalits, backward, tribals, minorities, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians. The BJP people are not honest to anyone. If the bill for OBC reservation has been presented and the intention of the BJP is clear, then they must pass the bill. If the intention of BJP were right, then why is it opposing the OBC reservation bill? If the BJP wants to send me to jail, hang me or lathi charge me, then do it. But this bill is in the interest of the backward class people of the country. The AAP will support this bill a thousand times. As long as I am in the House, if the BJP tries to stop any of my opposition MPs, I will raise my voice against them,” he asserted.
The Rajya Sabha MP stated that if the intention of the Prime Minister and BJP is clear, then they should pass the OBC bill. OBC reservation should be done on the basis of population. The Prime Minister should get caste census done in the country and find out how much population of OBC community there is in the country and pass the reservation on that basis. By opposing the OBC bill, the BJP has exposed its dark face in front of the whole country.
The BJP has shown that they are adamant on opposing such a great bill, which is in favor of the backward community. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Lohia, along with many socialist leaders have been raising the voice for the rights of the backward community. Caste census has not been conducted after 1931. In such a situation, how will we know how much population each class has and what should be its share? The BJP has been exposed by opposing the OBC bill inside the House, he stated.
Sanjay Singh, while showing some figures of the Government of India, said that out of 661 judges of the High Court appointed since the year 2018, there are 21 from Scheduled Caste, 12 from Scheduled Tribe, 78 from Backward Class and 550 from General category. That is why BJP is opposing the reservation bill for OBC. I asked the minister concerned whether there is any system to implement reservation in the judiciary? On this, the minister straightaway said ‘no’.
“The sanctioned posts of Scheduled Caste professors in Delhi and central universities across the country till the year 2020 are 297, but currently only 51 are employed and 246 posts are vacant. That is, 82.82% of the posts of Scheduled Caste are lying vacant in central universities across the country. Similarly, the sanctioned posts for scheduled tribes are 135, 8 are employed, and 125 posts are vacant. This means 93% posts are still vacant. The sanctioned posts for OBCs are 269, 9 are employed and 260 posts are vacant. This means 96% posts are vacant. That is why the BJP is opposing the OBC bill. The sanctioned posts for PWD category are 70, 10 are employed, and 60 posts are vacant. 85.71% posts for handicapped are vacant,” he stated.
Similarly, while presenting the caste-wise approved Assistant Professor and Associate Professor data in 40 Central Universities across the country, Sanjay Singh stated, “Among Assistant Professors, SC has 1,352, 975 are employed and 377 are vacant. That means 27.92% posts are vacant. ST has 696 approved posts, 463 are employed and 233 posts are vacant. That means 33.4% posts are vacant. OBC has 2,178 approved posts, 1,267 are employed, and 911 posts are vacant. That means 41.82% posts are vacant. For Divyang (handicapped) people, 308 are approved, 151 are employed and 157 are vacant. That means 50% of the posts are vacant.”
He continued, “Similarly, among Associate Professors, SC has 602 approved posts, people are working on 141 posts and 661 posts are vacant. That means 76% posts are vacant. ST has 286 approved posts, 40 people are working and 246 posts are vacant. 86.01% posts are vacant. In OBC, 544 posts are sanctioned, 31 people are working and 513 are vacant. That means 94% posts are vacant. For handicapped, 132 posts are sanctioned, 13 people are working and 119 are vacant. That means 90% posts are vacant. That is why I say that BJP is against Dalits, backwards, tribals and handicapped. The BJP has snatched the rights of everyone. By opposing the OBC bill which demands reservation on the basis of population, the BJP has been exposed in front of the whole country.”

INDIA alliance will hold dharna on July 30 demanding release of CM Arvind Kejriwal: Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh said that on July 30, the INDIA alliance will hold a dharna (strike) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi demanding the release of Arvind Kejriwal considering his deteriorating health. CM Arvind Kejriwal is being tortured in jail. His sugar level has often reached below 50 or around 50, which is a very dangerous situation. If the sugar level goes below 80-70, then it is a fatal situation. Arvind Kejriwal’s sugar level has gone below 50 many times. Leaders of all the constituent parties of INDIA alliance will participate in the dharna to be held at Jantar Mantar on July 30, he informed.
