Even after a month, Delhi’s women are still waiting for the ₹2,500 they were promised, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now holding the BJP to account for PM Modi’s so-called “guarantee.” Senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi has questioned when the BJP’s “Vipda” government will fulfil its promise in a press conference on Thursday.
Hitting out at the BJP, Atishi asked whether the BJP-led Delhi Government truly intends to provide ₹2,500 per month to over 48 lakh women above 18 or if it will pile on so many conditions that barely 1 percent benefit. She pointed out that despite a four-member ministerial committee being formed 12 days ago, there has been no decision. Demanding answers, Atishi sought clarity on when registrations will open, when the funds will be deposited, and whether the BJP government plans to turn PM Modi’s ‘Guarantee’ into just another ‘jumla.’
In a press conference questioning BJP’s unfulfilled promise of ₹2,500 for Delhi’s women, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP, Atishi, stated that one month has passed since the BJP government was formed in Delhi, yet its key election promise remains unfulfilled. “PM Narendra Modi and the BJP had assured that every woman in Delhi would receive ₹2,500 in her bank account. Even after a month, that promise remains unfulfilled.”
The Delhi Assembly LoP highlighted that before the elections, PM Modi repeatedly promised that this scheme would be implemented immediately. She said, “The PM claimed that in the first Cabinet meeting of the BJP government, the scheme would be approved. But that did not happen. PM Modi guaranteed that every woman in Delhi would receive ₹2,500 in her account by March 8. However, this guarantee turned out to be false. March 8 came and went, yet not only was the money not transferred, but the registration for the scheme didn’t even begin.”
Atishi asserted that instead of acting on their promise, the BJP government has chosen a delay tactic. “Delhi’s women were handed nothing more than a gimmick—a committee of four ministers. Now, the committee will decide. Everyone in this country knows that forming a committee is just a way to push an issue into cold storage. The committee will sit on it for years, ensuring nothing actually happens.”
The Delhi Assembly asked the BJP-led government in Delhi four questions. She began by asking, “Will the BJP government provide ₹2,500 as promised to every woman in Delhi above the age of 18, or will they impose so many conditions that not even one percent women will actually benefit from the scheme? PM Modi had promised this to all the women of Delhi, stating that every woman’s account would receive the money. So, my question to the BJP is this—will they give ₹2,500 to Delhi’s 48 lakh women above the age of 18 or not?
Highlighting that the BJP government has had ample time to attack Arvind Kejriwal and AAP, but no time to act on its promise, LoP Atishi asked her second question. She said, “It has been 12 days since this so-called committee was formed. The BJP finds time from morning to night to target Arvind Kejriwal and AAP, yet in these 12 days, they have not taken a single decision on providing ₹2,500 to the women of Delhi. So, I ask—what exactly has this committee been doing for 12 days? What decision has been made?”
“My third question to the BJP government—on what date will the registration for this ₹2,500 scheme begin? And the fourth, most crucial question—when will every woman in Delhi actually receive ₹2,500 in her bank account,” she asked.
Atishi stressed that all of Delhi’s women demand answers to these questions from the BJP and PM Modi. She added, “Otherwise, women are now beginning to feel that PM Modi has deceived them, made a false promise, and they made a mistake in believing him.”
Answering a media question, Atishi stated, “The only task the BJP government in Delhi seems to have is to abuse Arvind Kejriwal and AAP from morning to night. They had ample time for this in the last Assembly session, where instead of presenting a vision, action plan, or timeline for the people of Delhi, they spent the entire session targeting Arvind Kejriwal and AAP.”
