The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Lieutenant Governor (LG), and the Prime Minister for their silence on the tragic deaths of a mother and son who fell into an open drain in Mayur Vihar Phase-3. The AAP announced plans for a massive protest at Raj Niwas this Saturday to compel the LG to acknowledge his responsibilities.
AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai pointed out that the BJP and LG were politicizing the Rajinder Nagar tragedy while now ignoring the negligence of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) that led to this tragedy. The AAP Delhi State Convenor criticized the LG for failing to take action against responsible officers or to announce compensation for the victims’ family. He also condemned BJP leaders for their initial attempts to blame the Delhi Government’s PWD, only to fall silent upon learning the drain belonged to the DDA.
AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai and Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar held a joint press conference at the party headquarters on Friday. During this, Gopal Rai said that Delhiites gave a huge majority and formed the AAP government. Ever since our government has been formed in Delhi, the BJP government at the centre has been running a campaign to weaken the Delhi government. Delhi is the capital of the country, so the jurisdiction of the state and central government is already divided.
The AAP Delhi State Convenor continued, “Here DDA, police, and land come under the central government. But the BJP overturned the right of the elected government of Delhi to transfer post officers and to operate and take decisions on all the works, by going against the decision of the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court. They also snatched away the rights of the Delhi government by passing a law in the Parliament. The BJP constantly tried to harm the work done by CM Arvind Kejriwal for education, health, electricity, water, women’s travel and pilgrimage of the elderly.”
Gopal Rai further added that through this new law, the BJP conspired to disable the Kejriwal government under the guise of LG. But despite all their conspiracies, the work of the Delhi government continued. After this, they first arrested Delhi’s Health Minister and Education Minister and then arrested the CM by making a fake case without any evidence. Even after CM Arvind Kejriwal got bail from the ED court and later from the Supreme Court, he was put in jail using the CBI. Despite all this, the Delhi government is doing its work and fulfilling its responsibility towards Delhiites. But despite snatching all the rights, the BJP is still upset seeing the continuous work of the Delhi government. After hatching all the conspiracies and arresting the Chief Minister, the BJP is still restless.
He stated just like Delhiites elected Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi for three consecutive times, in the same way, they voted for BJP three times and formed their government at the centre. But today the BJP is not refraining from doing politics even on dead bodies. Yesterday, three students died in a tragic incident in Rajinder Nagar. Since the incident, the Delhi government and MCD have continuously taken strict action, many coaching centres were sealed, and many officers were suspended. Along with this, the process of giving ₹10 lakhs compensation to the children is going on from the Delhi government and MCD. The process of regularizing the coaching centres is going on. Even after zero power, the AAP government is doing whatever is possible for the students, understanding its responsibility. We are talking to the students.
Gopal Rai further said that on the other hand, the BJP has come to do dirty politics on this accident. But it is very unfortunate that when a mother and son died after falling into the open drain of DDA between Mayur Vihar Phase 3 and Khora Colony of UP, the BJP government at the centre, its seven MPs in Delhi and its LG are silent on this. The central government did not feel that it should take action against the negligence of DDA. Now all the leaders of the BJP are missing, as if they have forgotten how to protest. News from LG’s office has stopped coming from “sources”.
The AAP Delhi State Convenor shared that after this incident, BJP leaders and big spokespersons reached the spot to make a video in which they were shouting that this is a drain of PWD of the Delhi Government. But later they came to know that this is a drain of DDA. After this they got scared. Now no one is ready to speak on this. How low will BJP stoop to defame CM Arvind Kejriwal? First, they went to make a video of the drain to defame Arvind Kejriwal, but then later it was found out that it comes under the Central Government and not the Delhi Government, then not a single BJP leader is ready to speak on this. Is the death of that mother and child not a death?
“Wherever we have responsibility, we are standing there fighting for the people with full strength. But LG should tell whether he has no responsibility for this negligence of DDA? Whenever there is an incident related to the police or DDA, the BJP and its LG become silent. Whereas wherever we have responsibility, we are fulfilling it. The BJP and LG will also have to fulfil their responsibility. If the mother and child have died due to the negligence of DDA, then action will have to be taken against those responsible for this. They will have to be compensated. The BJP cannot run away by turning their back. BJP MPs should resign, or they should meet LG taking moral responsibility for this. This incident should be investigated and action should be taken against the culprits,” said the Delhi Minister.
Gopal Rai said that the problems of Delhiites will not be solved by BJP abusing CM Arvind Kejriwal from morning to evening. BJP wants to have all the power, but it does not have to do any work. Despite being in MCD for 15 years, they did not do a single work. BJP MPs have been winning continuously three times, but they do not do any work. And their government at the centre does not give a budget for Delhi. These people want to be zero in work and hero in power.
“BJP will also have to fulfil its responsibility. When their MPs are asked to give an account of their work, they start running away. Whenever the question of BJP’s responsibility comes up, they start running away. But as soon as Kejriwal is talked about, he gets all the power. Then protests start one after the other. Then LG also starts writing letters, and BJP ministers, and MPs also wake up. This double standard politics of BJP will not work in Delhi. The way the Delhi government has taken its work forward by fulfilling its responsibility, BJP MPs, the central government and LG will also have to fulfil their responsibility. If they do not do so, then we will fulfil our responsibility and will not let BJP remain silent,” he added.
Gopal Rai said that the AAP will protest outside LG’s residence on Saturday. BJP will have to speak on this matter. Otherwise, now Delhiites also understand that the BJP’s aim is not to get justice for the people of Delhi, but only to defame CM Arvind Kejriwal by abusing him. And now this is not going to work in Delhi. BJP, sitting with full power, should not think that it will escape from its responsibilities. Despite having zero power, the Kejriwal government is doing its work and will continue to do so in future. We demand that LG should take action against the officers guilty of this incident as soon as possible and give immediate financial help to their families.
Meanwhile, AAP MLA from Kondli Kuldeep Kumar said that this tragic incident took place on July 31 at around 8 pm. Almost 40 hours have passed, but no BJP leader has come to protest on this issue. No BJP leader has written a letter to the LG for this, nor has anyone met the victim’s family till now. Sadly, the BJP MP from East Delhi did not even go to that area to meet the victim’s family or inquire about the incident. BJP is currently doing dirty politics in Delhi. It is busy saving DDA and LG. The child who died in this incident was the only child of that family, and the woman was only 23 years old. Due to the negligence of DDA officials, that family which came to Delhi from Uttarakhand was ruined. But BJP people are not saying anything on this only because that drain belonged to DDA.
The Kondli MLA further said that action should be taken against those DDA officers. We also protested on Thursday with this demand so that the mother and son get justice. LG should suspend those officers with immediate effect and register a murder case against them. Because it was not an accident but murder. If that drain had been covered, their lives could have been saved. LG cannot escape from this. He is very fond of taking credit for the works of the Delhi government. He creates obstacles in the work of many departments like DJB, and PWD. But at least he should handle the departments under him properly.
“If action is taken against those officers, then such accidents will stop in future. Officers will be afraid that if they play with the lives of Delhiites, they may lose their jobs. But if they get LG’s protection, then they will be careless in the same way. This trend that LG has started in Delhi has to be stopped.
