The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a scathing attack on the BJP after a female patient was brutally raped and lost her life at Delhi government’s Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said the incident lays bare the BJP government’s complete administrative failure.
He demanded answers from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, asking how such savagery was possible in a state-run hospital—were the guards and administration asleep? Were CCTV cameras non-functional? He warned that Delhi’s education and healthcare systems are collapsing back to their old state, with the private school and hospital mafia making a dangerous comeback.
During a media interaction, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “This is an extremely serious matter. In my memory, I have never heard of a case where a patient admitted to a hospital for treatment was subjected to rape, and it too so brutal that it led to her death. The victim was a 20-year-old woman admitted to the ICU, where the assault took place. After the incident, the BJP government tried its best to suppress and conceal it.
“Now, even after the woman has died, there has been no official statement from the BJP government. There is no information on whether Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met the victim’s family or if the government has taken any steps to ensure justice for them,” he stated.
Highlighting the BJP-led government’s inaction, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Till now, the Delhi government has not announced any compensation, nor has the Chief Minister convened any meeting regarding hospital security. There has clearly been an attempt to bury this incident. As far as I know, nothing like this has ever happened in a hospital before. In 2013, during the Congress government’s tenure, there was a rape incident involving a patient at Delhi’s Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, though it did not result in death. This current case signals that the pre-2013 system is returning in Delhi.”
He added, “The condition of government hospitals and schools is deteriorating once again. They are being deliberately run down so that private hospitals and schools can benefit. Private schools have started acting arbitrarily, and the old system seems to be coming back. The reforms brought in by the Aam Aadmi Party government over the last 10–11 years are being undone and brought back to zero.”
In a post on X, Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote, “A woman was brutally raped in a Delhi government hospital (Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital) and has died. I have some questions for Rekha Gupta ji. First, how was such brutality possible inside a hospital? Second, were all the security guards and the administration asleep? Third, were the CCTV cameras in the hospital not working? And fourth, how can such a thing happen to a patient inside a hospital?”
“Delhi has now become like a Phulera Panchayat. Never before have we heard of a case where a patient in a Delhi hospital was raped and life was lost. In October 2013, under the Congress government, there was a similar rape case in this same Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, though the patient had survived. Are we witnessing the return of that same old system? Is the state of education and healthcare about to revert to what it used to be? Have the private school mafia and private hospital mafia returned?” the post concluded.
