Raising serious alarm over the growing number of missing persons in the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said that more than 50 people going missing from Delhi every day reflects a grave collapse of law and order under the BJP’s four-engine government.
Senior AAP leader and MLA Sanjeev Jha warned that Delhi is fast turning into “Lapata Ganj”, with people disappearing continuously, exposing a governance failure where crime is rising unchecked even as both the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister operate from the city, and the ruling BJP remains a silent spectator to the worsening situation.
Taking to X, senior AAP leader and MLA Sanjeev Jha said that there are alarming reports of people disappearing from different parts of Delhi, stating, “There are reports of hundreds of people going missing in Delhi. As per my information, this figure is between 700 and 800. This has created an atmosphere of fear among the people.”
Highlighting the gravity of the situation in his own constituency, Sanjeev Jha said. “From my assembly constituency Burari alone, information is coming in about dozens of people going missing, most of whom are young girls and small children. This has spread fear across Delhi, with people wondering whether this is a case of human trafficking or whether something like an Epstein-style case is also happening in Delhi. Despite this, the Delhi Police is sitting idle and not taking action.”
Sanjeev Jha further pointed out the irony of the situation, saying, “It is surprising that Delhi is the national capital and the Union Home Minister, who has command over the Delhi Police, sits here. The Chief Minister of Delhi is also here. BJP leaders used to claim that a double-engine government would eliminate crime. Then why has crime suddenly increased so sharply? Why are the Chief Minister of Delhi and the Union Home Minister unable to do anything?” he asked.
Expressing anguish over the lack of accountability, Sanjeev Jha said, “There is no one to listen to the people today, and they have been left helpless. I urge the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister to summon the Police Commissioner and take cognisance of why no action is being taken.”
Recalling earlier mechanisms of oversight, Sanjeev Jha stated, “Earlier, there used to be police station committees in Delhi, chaired by the local MLA. Weekly meetings were held and all registered FIRs were audited. However, ever since the BJP’s double-engine government came to power, these police station committees no longer exist and police audits are not taking place.”
Concluding his statement, Sanjeev Jha said that Delhi has effectively been abandoned by those in power. “The Chief Minister has no time, and the Home Minister has nothing to do with Delhi, which is why they have left the city to its fate. I hope that cognisance will be taken of this serious and heinous crime and action will be initiated, so that people living in an atmosphere of fear can be relieved,” he said.
