In a desperate bid to seize power in Bihar, BJP is playing with the lives of lakhs of Purvanchalis in Delhi. AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj exposed that a fake Yamuna filled with filtered water has been built at Vasudev Ghat for PM Modi, while Chhath devotees are left to stand in the real, polluted river.
The AAP Delhi Unit Chief said that the BJP’s drama is designed to fool voters and hide the truth — that the Yamuna remains dangerously toxic. He revealed that Delhi’s Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) itself admits the water can cause serious diseases, yet BJP leaders are busy staging photo-ops and spraying chemicals to mask the foam, which they themselves said were ‘poison’ during AAP’s tenure. He revealed that the BJP is playing with people’s faith, risking their health and lives for Bihar votes and asserted that those who can deceive Chhathi Maiya for politics can betray anyone.
Addressing a press conference, AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “The BJP keeps telling lie after lie to hide a single lie of its own. The BJP lied to the people of Delhi and the country—saying it had cleaned the Yamuna—only to give a certificate of praise to its own Delhi government, whereas Arvind Kejriwal’s government could not clean the Yamuna even in ten years.”
He said, “Neither Arvind Kejriwal nor any Aam Aadmi Party leader ever asked BJP leaders or the BJP’s Delhi government for any certificate about cleaning the Yamuna. The BJP had to issue that certificate solely to praise its Delhi government ahead of the Bihar election, and now it has to tell hundreds of lies to cover that lie.”
Giving an example, Saurabh Bharadwaj continued, “When the Aam Aadmi Party was in power in Delhi, a chemical that is not harmful used to be sprayed into the water to clear the foam. But only for drama before the public, BJP leader Parvesh Verma would come to the Yamuna ghats, abuse and misbehave with officials, and call that chemical poison. Today, the same Parvesh Verma, now Minister for Water, is having that chemical sprayed into the Yamuna to remove the foam.”
He added, “The BJP’s Delhi government has assigned staff the duty of spraying that chemical in the Yamuna from 9:00 a.m. to remove the foam. To expose the BJP’s lie, we went at 7:00 a.m., recorded a video of the foam in the Yamuna and released it to the public, and the BJP’s lie was exposed.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj further added, “To hide this lie, the BJP changed the duty time of those poor, exploited workers from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Those poor workers now go into the Yamuna at 5:00 a.m. in the cold to spray the chemical and remove the foam. Even after the chemical is sprayed daily, the foam reappears the next day, and the BJP’s lie is exposed to the public again.”
He revealed, “To fool the public and to deceive the devotees from Bihar and Purvanchal who come to the ghats for Chhath, the BJP has stopped the water that goes from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage to Uttar Pradesh farmers via the Eastern Canal and instead released all that water into the Yamuna. This is being done so that, because of the larger volume, the pollution will appear diluted in Yuamuna. But the BJP has made no reduction in Yamuna’s pollution; they are simply adopting new tricks to hide their lie.”
Giving another argument to expose the BJP-run Delhi government’s lies before journalists, the former Delhi minister shared, “BJP leaders are putting on a show at the Yamuna, and they stage a drama of drinking water by cupping it in their hands as an offering (chhullu), yet the water clearly falls from their elbows and they are not actually drinking it.”
“To unmask this lie, in the presence of media, I filled a bottle with Yamuna water and took that water to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s house and said: if the BJP has truly cleaned this water and the Yamuna is now clean, then Chief Minister Rekha Gupta or any BJP minister or leader should drink this water in front of the media. But neither Chief Minister Rekha Gupta nor any BJP leader came to meet us, nor did anyone drink that filthy, polluted Yamuna water to prove it clean,” he revealed.
Warning of another fraud by the BJP-run Delhi government, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The BJP is soon going to stage another drama before the people of Delhi and the country, and they have even involved Prime Minister Narendra Modi in it.”
Presenting a video to journalists, he shared, “Near Delhi ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminal), at the Vasudev ghat, the BJP has constructed an artificial river along the Yamuna bank: a small stream secretly filled with filtered water taken from the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant’s pipeline that supplies Delhi’s drinking water. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take a dip in that filtered-water Yamuna to fool the people of Delhi, Bihar and Purvanchal, and to show that the BJP has cleaned the Yamuna.”
“Have you ever heard of the Prime Minister catching the flu when seasons change? During the COVID-19 period, did you ever hear that the Prime Minister contracted COVID? News often reaches us that people fall ill in Delhi from drinking dirty water—typhoid, for example—so have you ever heard that the Prime Minister got typhoid from drinking contaminated water,” he asked.
The AAP Delhi chief pointed out that the Prime Minister always takes care of his health. That is why they have created this fake river of filtered water for the Prime Minister to take a dip in, while the ghats for poor Purvanchali people are left on the real Yamuna full of filth and excreta. The BJP does not care if these Purvanchali people become ill or die, or if their children die; yet Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s health is cared for. Even if people for Purvanchal die, their only care for their propaganda to go on.
He further revealed, “I have information that the media may not even be allowed inside this event—only the government channel cameras will be permitted, and the pictures those channels want will be shared with other media so that the truth about this fake filtered-water river does not reach the public.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj asserted, “Think about it: those who can deceive Chhathi Maiya, who can deceive ‘Surya Bhagwan’, cannot be trusted with anyone or anything. This entire drama is only intended to fool the people of Bihar and secure votes in the upcoming Bihar election.”
Sharing further information with journalists, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “According to a recent report from the Delhi Government’s Pollution Control Board, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), itself, the Yamuna water is so polluted that, far from drinking, if anyone bathes in it they could contract terrible illnesses. Despite this, the BJP is willing—solely to gain votes in Bihar and seize power—to risk the lives of Purvanchalis.”
“Everyone knows that Chhath devotees stand in the Yamuna for two or three hours to perform puja and offer ‘arghya’ to complete their Chhath fast. Despite the river’s severe pollution, the BJP has hatched such a huge conspiracy that a fake, filtered-water Yamuna has been constructed on the riverbank for Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that Purvanchalis, the people of Bihar and the Chhath devotees can be fooled and the BJP can win votes in Bihar, even if Purvanchalis in Delhi die from bathing in the polluted Yamuna or from drinking that contaminated water,” he asserted.
