Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are set to confront Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena over the crumbling law and order in Delhi, following a series of violent incidents. AAP Senior leader and cabinet minister Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Durgesh Pathak visited the spot on Sunday after the firing at a car showroom in Naraina on Saturday.
Saurabh Bharadwaj declared that Saturday’s shootings in three different areas have exposed the city’s descent into lawlessness, leaving traders and residents gripped by fear. The AAP will demand immediate action to restore safety and end the reign of terror on Delhi’s streets.
During the visit, senior AAP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “This is the main road area of Naraina, and such areas are at their busiest for business around 7:15 in the evening. At such a time, gangsters stormed into a showroom with weapons and fired 24 rounds. A gun was placed on the head of the person inside.”
The senior AAP leader continued, “For a long time, they had been receiving extortion calls. These are not rich people. Today, these people need police protection. I had hoped that when I came to this showroom today, several armed police officers would be present here. But the people have been left orphaned. Tomorrow, we will meet with the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and present our demand, stating that this kind of hooliganism cannot continue.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed his concern further, “It’s all over Delhi’s newspapers and news channels that extortion is happening here, which is very unfortunate. And it saddens me to say that businesspersons here are thinking about leaving the country, because they don’t feel safe here. Even having such thoughts is very wrong for the country.”
He further added, “We need to provide security to these traders in Delhi and improve the atmosphere here. Tomorrow, we will meet with LG and put an end to this environment.”
Meanwhile, AAP MLA and MCD In-charge Durgesh Pathak stated, “This is the main road of Naraina, which connects West Delhi and New Delhi. The Prime Minister’s residence is just about 4 kilometers away, and in the evening, this area sees a lot of foot traffic. Yet, 24 rounds were fired one after another at this showroom, out in the open.”
Durgesh Pathak further added that for the past six months, they have been receiving ransom demands. They even filed a complaint with the police, but no action was taken, and no protection was provided. A complete state of chaos has emerged, and law and order have completely collapsed. Every day in Delhi, hundreds of people are receiving ransom calls, and the police are doing nothing about it.
