In a stark indictment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-hyped development narrative, the very roof of the NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail’s New Ashok Nagar station—grandly inaugurated by the PM just months ago—was ripped off during Saturday’s pre-monsoon rain and gusty winds. The incident lays bare the fragility of the so-called “double-engine” governance, where optics have clearly trumped structural integrity. AAP MLA from Kondli, Kuldeep Kumar, visited the site to assess the damage and called out the BJP government’s model of development but a “model of destruction.”
AAP Delhi State President and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj shared the video of the collapsed roof on social media platform X, slamming the BJP governments at the Centre: “This is the pre-monsoon report card of BJP’s four-engine government in Delhi: 5 deaths in the first spell of rain in May, 4 more in Saturday’s storm. A total of 9 people have lost their lives, and the monsoon hasn’t even started yet.”
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also shared the visuals of the damaged roof on X, pointing out PM Narendra Modi’s track record of inaugurating substandard infrastructure: “This is ‘New India’. Even a station inaugurated by Modi ji flies away in four months. This is the reality of the BJP’s development,” Sanjay Singh stated.
Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar rushed to the site after receiving reports of the roof collapse. He inspected the damage and blamed the BJP for endangering public safety through its corrupt construction practices. “Substandard tin sheets were used in the roof of the Ashok Nagar Rapid Metro Station. No one would dare use such material even in their homes. This is the real face of Modi ji’s development. Some of this development is literally falling into drains. Wherever the BJP government has worked, and wherever the Prime Minister has cut a ribbon, the roofs have flown off. This station is only 8 months old and it couldn’t withstand a dust storm. BJP is the most corrupt party in the country,” Kuldeep Kumar declared.
