With AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s nod, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lined up firmly behind Opposition nominee Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy in the Vice Presidential contest. Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh framed the election as a clash of ideologies — the RSS versus the Constitution. On one side stands the BJP’s RSS-backed candidate, and on the other, Justice Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge from Andhra Pradesh. The next move, he said, rests with the TDP and other parties.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh addressed the opposition’s decision to field former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy for the post of Vice President. He made it clear that Reddy is the joint nominee of the opposition parties. “AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has taken a decision, and our party has decided that we will support former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy,” stated the senior AAP leader.
Emphasising the larger context, Sanjay Singh said, “This is a battle between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Constitution. The BJP’s candidate comes from an RSS background, whereas the opposition’s nominee, former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy, has never been associated with any political party or any particular ideology. He has been an impartial and respected judge.”
Highlighting his background, Sanjay Singh added, “Since he hails from Andhra Pradesh, it is now up to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and other parties to decide whether they extend their support. As far as the Aam Aadmi Party is concerned, our National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has taken the decision that we will support Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy as the joint candidate of the opposition parties.”
