Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will vacate the official Chief Minister’s residence tomorrow. Known for his commitment to integrity and public service, the AAP National Convenor has voluntarily chosen to resign and subsequently vacate the official residence despite having no legal obligation to do so. Announcing the move, AAP Senior Leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that Arvind Kejriwal will temporarily relocate to a new address, as the people of Delhi ready themselves to re-elect him to power. “His decision to step down and vacate the official residence reflects his belief in the sanctity of the public mandate,” he added. Supporters and well-wishers from across Delhi, including several MP, MLAs and ministers, extended offers for Arvind Kejriwal to stay at their homes. However, he has decided to remain within the New Delhi assembly constituency, where he was elected by the people. He will now be moving into the official residence of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Mittal at 5, Ferozshah Road in New Delhi along with his family.
Talking about the development, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “When Arvind Kejriwal Ji was granted bail by the Supreme Court, he wasn’t under any obligation to resign as Chief Minister. But there was a burden on his conscience.” Arvind Kejriwal is known for his exemplary public service. He left behind a prestigious career in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) while being the Commissioner of Income Tax to dedicate over a decade working in the slums of Delhi. His commitment to honesty and integrity has been unwavering throughout his career. “Upon being granted bail, Kejriwal resolved not to retain the position of Chief Minister until re-elected by the people of Delhi. He is a man who has lived his life with complete honesty, never earning a rupee dishonestly. He has decided to go back to the people’s court, and let them decide. And as Navratri begins, he will also leave the Chief Minister’s residence tomorrow,” he added.
Many of party colleagues, including MLAs, ministers, and AAP supporters, extended invitations for Arvind Kejriwal and his family to stay at their homes. “Offers came from across Delhi, including Badli, Bawana, our MLA Madan Lal Ji also extended the offer. However, Arvind Kejriwal has decided to remain within his constituency in New Delhi, where he was elected,” the AAP Senior Leader stated.
Saurabh Bharadwaj confirmed that Arvind Kejriwal along with his family will be moving into the residence of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Ashok Mittal. “Dr. Mittal had offered his residence at 5 Ferozshah Road for Arvind Kejriwal and his family to stay until the former Chief Minister contests the elections and is re-elected to office. This will be his new address for the interim period until he regains the people’s mandate and resumes leadership in Delhi.”
