The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) threw their weight behind Ladakh’s demand for full statehood, declaring that “statehood is Ladakh’s right” and warning that India’s hard-won freedom was not meant to replace British rule with BJP’s domination. The AAP Chief asserted the BJP is “consumed by power” and systematically stripping states of their constitutional rights by converting them into Union Territories, calling the situation in Ladakh “alarming” and urging every true patriot to stand with its people.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, in a post on social media platform X, stated: “What is happening in Ladakh today is extremely alarming. Every true patriot should stand with the people of Ladakh. Did we take freedom from the British just so that the public would become slaves to the BJP instead of the British? Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad sacrificed their lives for democracy so that every Indian would have the right to choose their own government.”
“But today, the BJP, intoxicated by the addiction of power, is turning one state after another into a Union Territory, snatching away the rights granted by the Constitution. What are the people of Ladakh demanding? They are simply asking for their right to vote, the right to choose their government. But the BJP is suppressing their voice. Despite repeatedly promising, it is not giving them the right to vote,” he added.
The AAP Chief asserted, “Democracy is the voice of the people and when the government starts suppressing that very voice, it becomes the duty of the people to speak even louder. If we want to save the democracy of the country, we cannot remain silent against this dictatorship anymore. Today’s fight in Ladakh could become the fight of the entire country tomorrow.”
Backing Arvind Kejriwal’s charge, AAP senior leader and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia also condemned the BJP’s actions. He stated, “Instead of listening to the demands of the people of Ladakh and finding solutions for them, the BJP has resorted to the path of suppression through the might of guns. Bullets were fired at peaceful protesters—four innocents lost their lives, and dozens were injured. The arrogance of power has trampled upon constitutional rights and democratic dignity.”
“Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar, and our countless heroes watered the soil of the country with their blood so that we could attain freedom and dignity; Baba Saheb drafted the Constitution so that every citizen could receive equal rights—these rights cannot become the fiefdom of any political party. The Constitution empowers the people, not any political party,” Manish Sisodia’s post concluded.
The Aam Aadmi Party called on citizens across India to raise their voices in solidarity with Ladakh, warning that the BJP’s actions threaten the very foundation of Indian democracy.
