Two months into BJP’s rule in Delhi, the most vulnerable women are already paying the price. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj has called out the BJP government for abandoning thousands of widowed women by halting their pensions. He demanded immediate release of pending pensions and warned the BJP against targeting the lifelines of those who need support the most.
During a press conference, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that it has been over two months since the BJP government took over the administration in Delhi, yet the most vulnerable sections of society—particularly destitute women—are being neglected. “These include widows, women abandoned by their families, or those who are otherwise helpless. Their pension has not been released for the past two months,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed concern that these widowed women have been left with no option but to run from one government office to another. “They are going from office to office, hoping their pension will come, but nothing is happening,” he said.
He further stated that new information has surfaced about the BJP government’s intention to discontinue the pensions of several thousand widowed women in Delhi. He said, “Women who have been receiving this pension for many years are now being targeted by the BJP government. The pensions of a large number of women are being discontinued .This is extremely sensitive,” he said.
The AAP Delhi State President appealed to the BJP government, urging them to understand how delicate the matter is. “If you stop a widow’s pension, how is she expected to run her home or manage her basic needs? It becomes nearly impossible for her to survive,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Before making any such decision, the government must seriously consider whether there might be even one woman in need whose pension they are about to cut.”
He demanded that the BJP government immediately release all pending pensions. “Because of these delays, women and their families are suffering immensely,” he said. “The government must act swiftly and release everyone’s pension at the earliest.”
