In an act that lays bare the depths of authoritarian overreach and political vengeance, the BJP-led central government has committed an assault on the very foundations of democracy by evicting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi from her official residence for the second time in just three months. The Aam Aadmi Party has condemned the act as a calculated move to undermine a woman Chief Minister who has stood resilient in the face of repeated personal and political attacks.AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to X against the act and wrote, “Within three months, the BJP has once again forced Chief Minister Atishi Ji out of the Chief Minister’s residence. By insulting and evicting Atishi Ji from her home, they are showing their frustration. The BJP is facing a severe defeat in the Delhi elections, which is why they have resorted to such dirty politics.”Chief Minister Atishi, undeterred by this despicable act, has vowed to double her efforts to serve the people of Delhi with greater determination. “They can take away my home, abuse me, and insult my family, but they cannot extinguish the passion in our hearts to serve Delhi,” she declared. She also pledged to ensure every woman in Delhi receives ₹2,100 under the Mahila Samman Yojana is a showing her resolve to transform adversity into action. This act is unprecedented not only in Indian democracy but possibly across the globe. As Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj aptly put it, “The BJP has no concern for the people of Delhi. Their sole agenda is to crush the Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders. This shameful act of evicting a Chief Minister is a new low, even for them.”The Aam Aadmi Party has warned the BJP that it must remember: no amount of coercion can silence the will of the people and the AAP will not be cowed by these tactics. Every leader, worker, and supporter stands united behind CM Atishi, ready to face any adversity in the relentless pursuit of serving the people of Delhi. Speaking to the media over the issue, CM Atishi said, “The elections in Delhi have been announced today. On the night before the announcement of Delhi’s elections, the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) once again, for the second time in three months, threw me out of my official residence, which is the Chief Minister’s residence allotted to me in my capacity as Chief Minister. The BJP-led central government canceled the allotment of the Chief Minister’s residence and took it away from a democratically elected Chief Minister.”She noted that three months ago, the BJP had committed the same act. “When I became the Chief Minister, they removed my belongings and my family’s belongings from the Chief Minister’s residence and threw them onto the street. The BJP believes that by taking away my home, abusing me, and making derogatory remarks about my family, they can stop the work we are doing for the people of Delhi.” The CM, however declared, “I want to tell the people of Delhi that taking away my home will not stop our work. They can take away our homes and abuse us, but they cannot take away the passion in our hearts to serve the people of Delhi. If needed, I will come and live in your homes. If needed, I will come to your homes and work for the people of Delhi with double the speed and double the determination.”She added, “I will continue working to show the BJP that no matter how much they oppress us or harass us, we will not let them hinder our work for the people of Delhi. Let me remind the BJP that three months ago, when you first took away my Chief Minister’s residence and threw my belongings onto the street, I repaired Delhi’s roads, built flyovers, established numerous schools, and resumed the tests that had been halted in Mohalla Clinics.” “I ensured the availability of medicines in Mohalla Clinics and got the scheme to provide ₹1,000 Samman Rashi to women in Delhi passed in the Cabinet, as promised by Arvind Kejriwal Ji. Today, after they have thrown me out of the Chief Minister’s residence again, I take a pledge that I will ensure every woman in Delhi receives ₹2,100 under the Mahila Samman Yojana. Under the Sanjeevani Yojana, I will ensure that every senior citizen in Delhi gets free treatment in government and private hospitals. I will also ensure that every pujari and granthi in Delhi receives a Samman Rashi of ₹18,000 per month.” The Chief Minister concluded by saying that the BJP should understand that every worker, leader, and minister of the Aam Aadmi Party, including the Chief Minister, is ready to face any adversity for the sake of the people of Delhi. “The more you trouble us, the more zealously we will work for the people of Delhi.” Responding to a media query, the CM said, “Regarding Six Flagstaff Road, the Chief Minister’s residence allotted to me, in September or October, you may recall that three or four months ago, my belongings were thrown out of this residence. Yesterday evening, for the second time in three months, I received a letter from the PWD officials, under orders from the central government, canceling the allotment of Six Flagstaff Road and taking away the house. I don’t think such an act has ever occurred in the history of Indian democracy — a residence of a democratically elected Chief Minister being taken away by officials on the orders of the central government.”“But I reiterate, if the BJP thinks that by abusing us, abusing my family, or taking away my official residence, they can stop the work we do for the people of Delhi, they are mistaken. If needed, I will come and stay in your homes. The people of Delhi have opened their hearts and homes for the Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders. We do not need the Chief Minister’s residence. We live in the hearts of the people of Delhi. We will stay in their homes and work with double the effort and determination for the people of Delhi.” On another query regarding an alternative accommodation she said, “I will send a letter to the Prime Minister, offering an alternative residence to him, asking him to vacate the Prime Minister’s residence. AAP MP Sanjay Singh is willing to let him live in his residence, 131 North Avenue. I will write a letter right now to the Prime Minister, offering this allotment. Let’s ask the Prime Minister if he would accept this offer and stay there.”While, Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Over the past few years, we have witnessed the entire functioning of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, and one thing has become very clear — the BJP has no concern for the people of Delhi. They do not care about addressing Delhi’s water issues. They are not concerned about ensuring 24-hour electricity supply for Delhi’s residents. They have no interest in the state of Delhi’s hospitals.” He added, “They are indifferent to the education of Delhi’s 1.8 million children. They do not care about the conditions of unauthorized colonies, whether sewer lines are installed, water pipelines are laid, or roads are built in these areas. The BJP has no concern for any of these issues.”“BJP’s sole agenda, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year,” he said, “is to find ways to act against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders. Whether it is filing cases, sending the police after them, ordering raids by the ED, arresting leaders, starting new investigations, or sending them to jail. Even sending them to jail does not satisfy them — they stop medicines from reaching jailed leaders, halt insulin, and obstruct their work.”He noted that the BJP has done something unprecedented in the 75-year history of this country. “Today, the BJP has, for the second time, evicted a state’s Chief Minister from her official residence. You might recall those visuals of Chief Minister Atishi Ji’s belongings being packed into boxes and thrown out of the Chief Minister’s residence. Today, once again, a female Chief Minister has been evicted from her official residence.”“This is perhaps the first time something like this has happened — not just in India but possibly in any country in the world. That a state’s Chief Minister is evicted from their official residence by the government itself is unheard of. And on the very day elections are announced, this act by the BJP is truly unprecedented,” he concluded.
