With toxic smog choking Delhi and AQI levels shooting past 700, the city is sliding into a health emergency. But, the BJP government appears determined to look the other way. AAP’s Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar slammed the administration for pushing public events instead of issuing safety advisories, noting that even with complete control over Delhi–NCR, the government has not convened a single meeting on the crisis. She said the situation exposes a simple truth: while Delhi gasps for breath, the BJP is busy managing headlines instead of pollution.
AAP’s Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said that a ‘dhokhadhadi’ government is ruling Delhi, one that is using trucks to spray water on AQI meters to artificially lower the readings. She stated, “Even after this, Delhi’s AQI has crossed 700. This situation has now become a national health emergency. Delhi is part of the NCR and pollution is affecting neighbouring states as well. In such a situation, the Central Government must behave like a responsible government.”
She continued, “It has been more than ten months since the BJP took control of Delhi’s government, yet they have not taken a single concrete step to address pollution. They have neither convened an emergency meeting of all NCR Chief Ministers and Environment Ministers nor prepared any clear action plan. Winter has already begun, and the air will remain stagnant, which means pollution will only rise further.”
Priyanka Kakkar said that the BJP government is taking cosmetic steps like water sprinkling to mislead Delhi residents into believing that there is no problem. She stated, “At this time, the government should have issued health advisories and appealed to people to stay indoors, just as all doctors are recommending. But this government is doing the opposite. The government is saying there is no pollution, go outside. They are organising marathons and large public events. This is a crime against public health and this government must be held accountable for it.”
Pointing to the contrast with the Arvind Kejriwal government, she added, “When the Aam Aadmi Party was in government in Delhi, we prepared several short-term and long-term plans. The BJP used to mock us for our experiments, but eventually, they had to admit in the Assembly that pollution in Delhi had reduced by nearly 40 percent.”
She continued, “This year, incidents of stubble burning in Punjab have also decreased significantly. Yet the Central Government and BJP Ministers in NCR have still not called a single emergency meeting. This is a purely criminal act and this government should be answerable before the court.”
The AAP Chief Spokesperson further said that this government remains busy only with headline management and does not care about the health of the people. She stated, “They are allowing construction activities. Is this being done to fill the pockets of the builder lobby? Schools were not even allowed to shift to hybrid mode. Every step was delayed, and on top of that, they are trying to show that there is no problem at all. A responsible government’s job is to give accurate information to the public so that people can plan their daily routines accordingly. But this government is doing the exact opposite and is deceiving people about their health.”
She asserted, “This is why the people of Delhi are repeatedly coming out onto the streets to protest against the ‘farziwada’ being committed by this government.”
Finally, appealing to the people of Delhi, Priyanka Kakkar said, “Everyone must take care of themselves at their own level because according to this government there is no pollution. Spraying water on AQI meters is their only solution. The Aam Aadmi Party will continue to raise every issue related to public welfare and will keep putting pressure on this government to do its job.”
