The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has charged the BJP’s “four-engine” government with presiding over a complete collapse of law and order in Delhi, with MLAs Sanjeev Jha and Kuldeep Kumar noting that daily incidents of murder, looting, and rampant drug trade are going unchecked, and that despite AAP’s repeated demands, the ruling dispensation has refused to discuss public issues in the Assembly — urging CM Rekha Gupta and LG VK Saxena to prioritise citizens over reels and political propaganda.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, MLA Sanjeev Jha said that Delhi’s law and order situation has deteriorated drastically. “Murders and robberies are occurring daily in the city. On Saturday, a murder took place in Karawal Nagar. Similarly, every day we hear about serious crimes such as killings and lootings across Delhi. In Jangpura, the brother of a Bollywood actress was murdered,” he added.
Sanjeev Jha noted, “From Monday to Friday, the Delhi Assembly session was held. Throughout the monsoon session, we repeatedly demanded a discussion on Delhi’s worsening law and order. Yet, not even once in the five-day session were issues concerning the people of Delhi discussed. The BJP government wasted the entire session on political propaganda, leaving the people of Delhi feeling betrayed.”
Sanjeev Jha stated that no one is taking cognisance of murders, lootings, or the rampant sale of drugs in the capital. “I demand from the Delhi government—BJP told the public that if a double-engine government is formed, everything will improve. Delhiites even made the BJP government here. Now, not just a double engine, Delhi has multiple engines—Delhi Government, the LG, the Police, and the Central Government—all in BJP’s hands. Yet, the more BJP engines are added, the worse Delhi’s condition becomes.
“I urge the CM and the LG that if they can spare time from making reels and political propaganda, they should think about the people of Delhi. When people reach home safely in the evening, they feel their day went well—because there is fear in stepping out. Delhi is the nation’s capital; do not turn it into the crime capital,” Sanjeev Jha warned.
During the press conference, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that since the BJP’s four-engine government took power in Delhi, calamity after calamity has befallen its residents. “The responsibility for Delhi’s safety lies with the Central Government, and now even the local Delhi Government is under BJP. The LG too is from BJP. Despite this, Delhi has become a hub for criminals. There is an atmosphere of fear among the people.”
“On 7 August, in Shakarpur, a young woman was strangled from behind in broad daylight by a man who then dragged her behind a vehicle, snatched her earrings and chain, leaving her unconscious. Another man arrived on a bike, and both fled. This is the current state of law and order in Delhi. Our sisters and daughters leave for school or work with the fear that someone might strangle them. Criminals roam fearlessly; the police instil no fear in them,” he said.
Kuldeep Kumar pointed out that victims receive no hearing at police stations. “There is no staff available in the stations; there are not enough police personnel. Yet, the Central Government makes grand claims. The BJP says the Kejriwal government didn’t recruit police, while services have always been with the BJP-led Central Government. Delhi Police has always been under their control—so why has the BJP government failed to conduct recruitments? Delhi has become the crime capital. Chains are snatched from women MPs in broad daylight. Multiple cases of chain snatching and harassment occur every day, and no one addresses them,” he asserted.
He further stated, “In Karawal Nagar, one person murdered three members of a family. Where are criminals getting such audacity? The BJP government has completely failed to stop crime in Delhi. Women’s safety is left to God. Now that they have a four-engine government, the least BJP can do is provide the people of Delhi a safe environment.”
