The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fielded Ward 184 Councillor Hema Shrichand Vohra as its official candidate for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Standing Committee elections. Hema Vohra filed her nomination papers at the Civic Centre headquarters on Wednesday, flanked by senior leaders including former Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khichi, Councillors Puneet Rai, Gagan Choudhary, and Shrichand Vohra. The election is scheduled to take place on June 3 during the upcoming MCD House session.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD House, Ankush Narang, extended his best wishes and asserted that AAP is poised to win the seat—setting the stage for a fierce political showdown in the heart of the capital’s civic body.
Providing details, MCD LoP Ankush Narang explained that the Standing Committee comprises 18 members—12 elected from the zones and six from the House. One of the six House-elected seats had recently fallen vacant, for which AAP has fielded Vohra.
What makes this candidature particularly significant is Hema Vohra’s long-standing association with the party and her deep-rooted commitment to its founding ideals. A grassroots leader from Jaitpur in Badarpur, Hema and her husband Shrichand Vohra have been associated with AAP since the days of the 2012 Anna Movement. While Shrichand Vohra, a dedicated and veteran party worker, had contested the MCD elections in 2017 and served the organisation across multiple states, it was Hema who secured victory in 2022 from Jaitpur.
Her nomination to the powerful Standing Committee—MCD’s important body—underscores AAP’s intent to place trusted, long-time karyakartas in critical decision-making positions. With voting set for June 3, all eyes will now be on the MCD House, where the results will be declared the same day.
