Just days before the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP suffered another major setback on Wednesday. Senior BJP leader and member of the Delhi Pradesh Executive Committee Sanjeev Arora, who resides in the Rajinder Nagar constituency, joined the Aam Aadmi Party along with his entire team. He cited his admiration for Arvind Kejriwal’s governance-driven politics as the reason for his switch. At the party headquarters, senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh welcomed them into the party by presenting them with the party’s scarf and cap. On this occasion, senior leader and Rajinder Nagar candidate Durgesh Pathak extended a warm welcome to Sanjeev Arora and his team into the Aam Aadmi Party family.
Senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh, along with MLA Durgesh Pathak, addressed a press conference at the party headquarters. Sanjay Singh announced that senior BJP leader and Delhi Pradesh Executive Committee member Sanjeev Arora has resigned from the BJP and joined the Aam Aadmi Party along with his entire team.
Sanjay Singh highlighted that Sanjeev Arora had been associated with the BJP for the past 25 years, holding various key positions within the party. He added, “Sanjeev Arora served as a National Executive Member and Media In-charge of the BJP Yuva Morcha, National Media In-charge of the BJP Kisan Morcha, Treasurer and Vice President of BJP Karol Bagh District, and State Minister of BJP Yuva Morcha.”
Sanjay Singh further stated, “Beyond politics, Sanjeev Arora has dedicated nearly 30 years to public service. Through his organization, Indraprastha Sanjeevani, he has been actively engaged in social work across Delhi with a team of around 50,000 people. He also serves as the President of the KPS Gill Foundation and the Narayan Vihar Social Welfare Society.”
Sanjay Singh emphasized that, in addition, Sanjeev Arora has been honored with the title of Ganga Putra with the blessings of several Mahamandaleshwar saints. Welcoming him into the party, Sanjay Singh said, “I wholeheartedly welcome Sanjeev Arora to the Aam Aadmi Party.”
AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak highlighted Sanjeev Arora’s long-standing commitment to social service in the Rajinder Nagar and Karol Bagh areas through his NGO. He noted Sanjeev Arora’s extensive efforts in assisting people, whether by providing wheelchairs or distributing food and medicines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sanjeev Arora has been actively serving society for the past 30-35 years and has earned great respect in the community. I welcome him into the Aam Aadmi Party family. I am confident that his joining will further strengthen our mission to re-elect Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi’s Chief Minister,” Durgesh Pathak said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjeev Arora explained his decision to leave the BJP after 25 years, stating that the party no longer upheld the ideology it once stood for. He expressed disappointment and stated, “After serving the party for so many years, the way tickets were distributed was deeply disappointing—not just for me, but for many senior leaders. Instead of recognizing long-standing members, the ticket was given to someone who had only recently joined the party.”
“Everyone knows that this candidate is unavailable from 8 PM to noon the next day—he doesn’t meet anyone, doesn’t answer calls. I don’t understand what the BJP was thinking when it gave him the ticket. Every BJP worker in Rajinder Nagar is deeply hurt by this decision,” Sanjeev Arora remarked.
He praised Arvind Kejriwal’s governance, comparing his policies to the principles of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, emphasizing his commitment to the most marginalized sections of society. “Arvind Kejriwal is thinking about Delhi’s slum dwellers and introducing welfare schemes for them.”
“Until recently, the BJP mocked Arvind Kejriwal for distributing ‘freebies,’ but now, what is the BJP doing? We had proposed various initiatives for priests, but it was Arvind Kejriwal who stepped forward and announced a salary of ₹18,000 for priests and granthis. I am confident that the AAP will return to power, and we stand firmly with it,” Sanjeev Arora affirmed.
