AAP’s Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in MCD House, Ankush Narang has demanded the postponement of the upcoming Ward and Standing Committee elections scheduled for May amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. In this regard, Ankush Narang wrote a letter on Saturday to MCD Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar.
“I have requested Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Commissioner Ashwini Kumar to postpone the MCD Standing Committee and Ward Committee elections scheduled for the month of May in view of the ongoing war between India and Pakistan,” said Ankush Narang while sharing the letter on X.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in MCD House, Ankush Narang, said that given the current situation in the country and the prevailing circumstances, there is a highly tense atmosphere between India and Pakistan, and war could be declared at any time. “Therefore, I request Mayor Raja Iqbal to postpone the announced MCD ward committee elections until the situation normalizes. Until the atmosphere in the country becomes completely peaceful, the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) ward committee and standing committee elections should be halted. For now, these elections should be postponed.”
Ankush Narang said on ‘X’, “A war has erupted between India and Pakistan. The country is in a state of crisis, and the situation is deteriorating day by day. At any moment, a major war could break out between India and Pakistan. In view of this, I request Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar to postpone the MCD standing committee and ward committee elections scheduled for the month of May until the situation in the country becomes normal. This is a very delicate time for our country. At this time, we all should unite to boost the morale of the Indian Army.”
Letter from the MCD House LoP to the Mayor and the Commissioner
Ankush Narang stated, “As you are aware, the Pakistani Army is carrying out drone and missile attacks at several locations along the Indian border, and the situation remains highly tense. In such a situation, a full-scale war could be declared at any time. The Office of the Municipal Secretary has issued a notice for the election of members of the Standing Committee and the Ward Committee.”
He added, “As the Leader of the Opposition, it is my suggestion that the elections for the Standing Committee members and Ward Committee be postponed until the situation becomes normal. Please give this matter serious consideration and issue appropriate directions to the Office of the Municipal Secretary.”
