The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday tore into the BJP government after large parts of Delhi were left waterlogged and choked, with an innocent man swept away in the surging floodwaters following Maha Ashtami rains, holding the BJP squarely responsible for the capital’s recurring waterlogging crisis.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal shared a photo of a tragic incident from Naraina village on social media platform X and wrote: “Look at what condition they have brought Delhi to. They have made people’s lives a living hell. They are not here to govern. They are not here to work. They have only one job — to keep arresting opponents and adversaries 24 hours a day.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on social media platform X: “On Tuesday, on Maha Ashtami, this poor man was swept away in front of everyone’s eyes in Mehrauli. He was searched for all night, but could not be found. Perhaps he got trapped further ahead in the underground drain. Even during Janmashtami rains, many people in Delhi, including a 2.5-year-old child, lost their lives. Meanwhile, the government is dancing, jumping, and claiming that everything is fine.”
Taking aim at the BJP’s much-publicised drain-desilting drive, Saurabh Bharadwaj said: “The four-engine government left no stone unturned in doing drama over drain cleaning. They did endless photo sessions, but no actual work was done. This is the very spot where, about three and a half months ago, Minister Parvesh Verma conducted an inspection and claimed that all drains here would be desilted. He said he had taken officials to task and promised everything would be cleaned by June 15. There was much self-praise then. But at the very same place on Tuesday, an innocent man was swept away in the strong rain currents in front of the entire market. He was searched for all night but was not found. It seems the poor man has died.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj further reminded that the rain in Delhi on Tuesday lasted only a short while, yet, as always, it led to widespread waterlogging on roads and in colonies. “In this rain, the effigy of Ravana erected at the Ramlila ground in Rajouri Garden also collapsed and fell to the ground. It seems even Ravana was ashamed after seeing the work of BJP’s four-engine government and committed suicide in the waterlogging. In CM Rekha Gupta’s constituency, Shalimar Bagh, waterlogging also disrupted Ramlila festivities. Had the BJP government actually cleaned the drains, people in Delhi would not have had to suffer waterlogging after every rain, and that innocent man would not have suddenly been swept away by the strong currents,” he said.
