Furious over the death of the mother and son duo after falling into the DDA drain under LG in Mayur Vihar Phase III, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a massive protest at the LG Secretariat on Saturday. During this, they demanded strict action against the guilty officers and the resignation of the Lieutenant Governor (LG).
Many AAP MLAs, women, youth wing and legal cell officials, including a large number of workers, participated in the protest led by AAP State Vice-President and local (Kondli) MLA Kuldeep Kumar. The AAP workers, who came with placards with slogans such as ‘LG Sahab Istifa Do!’ (LG should resign), and ‘suspend DDA officers’, raised slogans and demanded the LG to ensure justice for the victim’s family.
The AAP says that the mother and her 2.5-year-old son died due to the negligence of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) under Lieutenant Governor. The LG is working as a puppet of the BJP government at the centre. Therefore, no action has been taken against the guilty officials till now and neither has any financial help been announced for the victim’s family.
As per the pre-announced program, a large number of AAP workers reached the LG Secretariat at around 12 noon on Saturday. When the police stopped them, the party leaders, MLAs, councilors and volunteers involved in the protest sat on the road and started shouting slogans against LG and the BJP.
Angry with the tragic death of mother and son due to DDA’s negligence, the AAP workers and women’s wing raised slogans like “Dilli ke Naale Saaf Karo” (clean the drains of Delhi), “LG Teri Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi” (LG, your dictatorship will not be tolerated) and demanded immediate resignation of the LG and strict action against the guilty officials.
AAP MLAs Haji Yunus, Abdul Rehman, Rajendra Pal Gautam and Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, along with other MLAs participated in this fierce protest. Apart from these, senior party leader Reena Gupta, State President of the Women’s Wing Sarika Chaudhary, Youth Wing President Pankaj Gupta, Legal Cell President Sanjeev Nasiar, Presidents of other wings and other officials were also present.
During this, AAP State Vice President and local (Kondli) MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that due to the negligence of DDA officials under LG, the mother and her son have died in Mayur Vihar Phase 3. “LG Sir should give them justice and neither try to escape from this matter nor lie. The BJP people tend to protest everywhere, but this time they ran away because they knew that this is DDA’s drain, which comes directly under the LG. But LG cannot escape from this now. He will have to take action and register a murder case against the officials,” he affirmed.
He continued, “What was the fault of that mother and son? If they were passing by the drain and the drain was not covered, it was the negligence of the officials. Why is LG protecting them?”
Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that we demand that LG should take action against those guilty officers. If he does not take action and the officers get protection, then the officers will not work honestly. But if he takes action even once, then the officers themselves will come out of fear and visit the drains.
He stated, “A murder case should be registered against these officers because this is not an accident but murder, which has happened due to LG’s officers. LG should suspend them. The only child and his mother of that family died and an entire family from Uttarakhand has been shattered. This family is in deep sorrow. The LG should give proper compensation to that family and take action against those careless officers due to whom the mother and son lost their lives.”
MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that our struggle will continue until this family gets justice. On Thursday, we went to the spot and protested, but no action was taken. Today, we are protesting outside LG House. Today we have come to tell him our demands. But if no action is taken on this, we will not hesitate to enter LG House. We will not back down, he asserted.
At the same time, AAP leader Reena Gupta said that the Lieutenant Governor is not allowing the elected Kejriwal government of Delhi to work. He is stopping all the work of Delhi by controlling the officers.
“Today, we have come to demand his resignation. If LG V.K. Saxena is interested in becoming the Chief Minister, then he should resign and come into the field and contest elections to become the Chief Minister. He is deliberately stopping the work of the Delhi Government. The DDA comes directly under LG sir. A mother-son duo died after falling into its open drain. Who is responsible for this?” She asked.
“LG sir is responsible for DDA, but instead of looking after its work, he interferes in all the departments of the government or writes a letter to some minister. If he is not able to handle DDA, then he should resign from his post,” Reena Gupta stated.
