Terming the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week as ‘extremely painful and distressing’, senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh has demanded that the culprit must be given the strictest punishment, which becomes an example.
On the speech given by the Prime Minister on women’s safety on Independence Day, Sanjay Singh said that Prime Minister Modi only talks about taking action and making laws, whereas making laws is the job of his government at the Centre. The incident in Kolkata is extremely painful and regrettable. “Even thinking about it makes the soul tremble how much pain that junior doctor girl must have suffered. CBI is investigating this case; the accused have been caught. The strictest punishment should be given in this; such a punishment should be given that it should set an example. What happened in Muzaffarpur, such brutality with a 14-year-old girl, what happened in Bareilly. This big question that is being raised in the country regarding the safety of women, I think it needs to be dealt with strictly. And some way or the other will have to be found so that our sisters, daughters, mothers can remain safe,” he said.
Sanjay Singh said because such incidents happen again and again, politics starts, allegations and counter-allegations are made. Why did they not speak, why are they silent. But women are not getting security from this.
On the issue of violence with doctors from RG Kar Medical College on Wednesday, Sanjay Singh said that today questions are being raised about the safety of women in the entire country, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Women cannot get security by doing politics and making allegations and counter-allegations in such cases. Prime Minister Modi only talks about taking action and making laws, whereas making laws is the job of his government sitting at the Centre, he said.
On the question of bringing in a Uniform Civil Code (UCC)in the country, Sanjay Singh said the constitution of this country itself says that there should be secularism in the country. “But where does the Prime Minister follow it? The Prime Minister who talks about madrasas, Mughals, mutton, fish during the entire election, does not talk about inflation, does not talk about Manipur. The Prime Minister who is engaged in spoiling the fabric of secularism in the country, he himself should first follow the principles of secularism enshrined in the constitution, his party should follow it,” he said.
The Rajya Sabha MP said what do you want to do through UCC? In this country, people of different languages, religions, regions live together. Unity in diversity is the specialty of India, we are a country with unity in diversity. Here the marriage of Sikhs takes place in 4 rounds, ours takes place in 7 rounds. So, what do you want to say that they should also get married by taking 7 rounds. “I think that the freedom given to people of different religions in the constitution and law of our country has been given after a lot of thought. You are only doing it for your political gains and losses. You don’t have to work on anything else _ neither on inflation, nor on unemployment, nor on education, nor on treatment. That is why you come up with such an agenda,” he said.
Reacting strongly on the issue of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail due to political conspiracy, not being able to hoist the tricolour on Independence Day, senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh said this is very painful for all of us and a matter of great regret for the entire country.
The Rajya Sabha MP said Arvind Kejriwal despite giving free electricity, water, education, health and bus travel facilities to the people of Delhi gave a profitable budget for Delhi. Such a Chief Minister was put in jail under a conspiracy, but dictatorship has not lasted for long in any country of the world. This current dictatorial government will also end one day.
Sanjay Singh said on the by-elections to be held on 10 seats in UP that this election will be very good and interesting. However, in by-elections, the ruling parties misuse the resources. But I hope that good results will come from these 10 seats.
