With just two days left for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promised ₹2,500 allowance to Delhi’s women by March 8, the BJP government remains unresponsive. In a bid to remind the ruling party of its commitment, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) karyakartas held demonstrations on Thursday at Rajghat, Moolchand, and other key intersections, demanding an answer: When will the money be credited?
Led by former MLA Rituraj Jha, AAP karyakartas held placards reading ‘Bas 2 Din Aur’ and chanted slogans, demanding the Prime Minister to clarify whether his guarantee to Delhi’s mothers and sisters will be honored—or broken.
During their protest, AAP karyakartas reminded commuters about the BJP’s unfulfilled promise. They reiterated that during the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP and PM Narendra Modi had assured that if the BJP formed the government in Delhi, it would pass a scheme in its very first cabinet meeting to provide ₹2,500 per month to every woman. The first installment was promised to be credited to women’s accounts by March 8.
Now that the BJP has formed the government in Delhi and its first cabinet meeting has already taken place, there has been no discussion on the ₹2,500 scheme for women. One of Modi’s guarantees has already failed, but there are still two days left until March 8. Women are eagerly awaiting the ₹2,500 in their accounts. AAP demands that the BJP fulfill Modi’s second guarantee to women on time.
Senior AAP leader and former MLA Rituraj Jha recalled that PM Narendra Modi had made this promise to women at a rally in Dwarka during the Delhi Assembly elections. “The Prime Minister had assured that the BJP government’s first cabinet meeting would approve ₹2,500 per month for all mothers and sisters, and the first installment would be credited to their accounts on International Women’s Day, March 8,” he pointed out.
Rituraj Jha further added that PM Modi had also appealed to women to link their Aadhaar with their bank accounts to receive SMS notifications when the funds are credited. Now, Delhi’s women have linked their Aadhaar with their bank accounts and are waiting for the ₹2,500 to be deposited.
“With only two days left until March 8, AAP is determined not to let Modi’s guarantee become another empty promise. The AAP will fight from the streets to the Assembly to ensure women receive the promised ₹2,500,” he affirmed.
Notably, the AAP has been holding demonstrations on the streets for the past three days to demand that the BJP fulfill its promise to Delhi’s women. On Tuesday, under the leadership of former Delhi CM and LoP Atishi, AAP workers staged a demonstration at Mandi House, reminding the BJP of Modi’s pledge. On Wednesday, protests were held at ITO and several flyovers across Delhi, questioning when the ₹2,500 will finally be deposited into women’s accounts.
