In a move that has sparked outrage, the BJP government in Delhi — which came to power on the back of grand promises — is now using taxpayers’ money not for public welfare, but to fund its own comfort and convenience. After approving luxury phones worth ₹1.5 lakh for the Chief Minister and ₹1.25 lakh for ministers, the Rekha Gupta-led Cabinet has now cleared a proposal to give every BJP MLA ₹1 lakh per month to hire four data entry operators each.
Slamming this brazen misuse of public funds, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday questioned how the same government that is dragging its feet on giving ₹2,500 monthly to women is swiftly clearing lavish perks for its own. He further pointed out the glaring hypocrisy — data entry operators in government hospitals were sacked after objections raised by the Lieutenant Governor (LG)-controlled officers, but there’s no objection when it comes to hiring four operators per MLA.
Calling out the BJP-led administration in Delhi for its hypocrisy and misplaced priorities, senior AAP leader and Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj took to the social media platform ‘X’ and wrote: “The same BJP that once made grand promises has, as soon as it came to power, passed a Cabinet order approving ₹1 lakh per month for each MLA to hire four data entry operators. Just two days ago, they approved the purchase of phones worth ₹1.25–1.5 lakh for ministers and Chief Minister, along with unlimited bill allowances. But when it comes to giving ₹2,500 per month to Delhi’s women, the BJP government is playing committee-committee games. Nobody knows when they actually plan to fulfill this promise.”
Highlighting the glaring double standards, the AAP Delhi unit chief added: “Under a calculated conspiracy, the salaries of poor data entry operators—who used to generate OPD slips in government hospitals—were stopped, and they were then terminated from service. Even after the Cabinet passed the file to reinstate them, the LG raised fresh objections, sent the file back, and claimed there were too many operators who needed to be reduced. This manufactured crisis lasted nearly two years, during which patients were forced to stand in line for hours—sick, suffering, and neglected. But now, BJP MLAs will get ₹1 lakh per month for hiring four data entry operators each, and the LG has no objections to that. What a travesty in Delhi.”
On the BJP’s broken promise to Delhi’s women, Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote: “Lakhs of women in Delhi are still waiting for the ₹2,500 monthly allowance that the BJP promised during the election campaign. The BJP had assured that the money would start reaching their accounts by March 8, 2025. The BJP has already formed the government, but no one knows when women will get their ₹2,500. All the government has done is form a committee and hold endless meetings. There’s still no sign of the funds.”
Calling out the BJP’s self-serving governance model, Saurabh Bharadwaj noted: “When it comes to buying ₹1.5 lakh phones or approving unlimited phone bills for its own ministers, the BJP government acts immediately. No committee is needed. Similarly, they have now passed Cabinet approval for each MLA to get ₹1 lakh per month to hire four data entry operators. Delhi taxpayers’ money should be spent on public welfare and development—not on pampering BJP’s own leaders. In its greed to enjoy the spoils of power, the BJP government has completely forgotten its promises, especially to women.”
