The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly and senior AAP leader, Atishi, slammed the BJP over Uttar Pradesh’s ‘buy one, get one free’ liquor scheme, calling out the party’s hypocrisy. She questioned why the BJP, which calls such schemes corruption, isn’t raiding Yogi Adityanath’s office.
As liquor shops in UP witness chaos over free bottles, Atishi challenged the BJP to clarify whether this is their model for the state—turning people into alcoholics. She also demanded to know if CM Yogi’s move had the party’s central approval or if BJP leaders would now take to the streets in protest.
In a media interaction, senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi criticised the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting viral videos showing chaos outside liquor shops in Noida, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, and other cities. She shared, “Videos circulating on social media show massive crowds outside liquor shops in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. People are scrambling, pushing, and even trampling over each other to buy alcohol—because the Yogi government is offering a ‘buy one, get one free’ scheme on liquor bottles. We have seen videos where people are climbing over each other and rushing into shops just to grab free liquor bottles.”
Questioning BJP’s intentions behind such a policy, Atishi asked, “Does it want to turn the people of Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states into alcoholics? I also want to ask the BJP’s central leadership—has this ‘buy one, get one free’ liquor scheme been implemented with their approval?”
She continued, “If Yogi Adityanath is not running this scheme with the BJP’s central leadership’s consent, will the BJP take to the streets to protest against it? The BJP itself had declared that offering one free bottle with every bottle purchased was a sign of corruption and a major scam. So, will they now tell us when the CBI and ED will raid CM Yogi Adityanath’s office?”
