As Delhi continues to choke under severe pollution, the enforcement machinery tasked with protecting public health stands exposed for brazenly undermining the very safeguards meant to curb the crisis. Even with Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) – IV restrictions in force, trucks loaded with construction material were allowed to enter the capital after paying bribes, raising serious questions about enforcement under the BJP government.
Calling it a direct assault on the lives of children, elderly citizens, and all Delhi residents gasping for clean air, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday shared two videos showing police personnel permitting such trucks despite the ban. He said the police functioning under Union Home Minister Amit Shah appeared indifferent to the health emergency gripping the city, and asserted that under BJP rule, even GRAP-IV has become a site of open wrongdoing.
Sharing videos on X, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji, on Sunday night your Delhi Police kept letting trucks loaded with construction material enter Delhi throughout the night after taking bribes, despite GRAP-IV being in force. It is obvious that construction activity continued all night. Your Police Commissioner is asleep, your government is asleep, because the loot must be reaching powerful people,” he added.
Calling GRAP-IV a scam, the AAP Delhi Unit Chief said the videos from Sunday night clearly showed police personnel taking bribes and permitting the entry of trucks into Delhi. “If CCTV footage is examined, it will reveal that at least 300 trucks were allowed to enter Delhi in just one night. This is what goes on throughout the night. The police showed complete disregard for the impact of pollution on children in the city. The real question now is whether the Delhi Police Commissioner will suspend the DCPs responsible,” he asserted.
Sharing another video, Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that in Delhi, “GRAP-IV has become yet another method of police extortion. Trucks loaded with construction material were entering Delhi unchecked from the Mandi border while police personnel stood by as silent spectators. The government’s only priority is transfers and postings in the name of rapid development,” he said
