Just a hundred days into the so-called “four-engine” government of BJP in Delhi, the capital is spiraling into a crisis of basic services. What was once a city with uninterrupted power and ample water under the Arvind Kejriwal government is now grappling with soaring electricity bills, relentless power cuts, and parched taps. The same Delhi that didn’t know what a blackout felt like is now waking up in the middle of the night—waiting, hoping, and fighting for a drop of water.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday shared a video on X that captures the anguish of Delhi’s citizens. Expressing concern over the worsening plight of residents within just 100 days of BJP’s rule, he wrote, “What havoc these four engines have wreaked on Delhiites in just 100 days?”
This video is also widely circulated by the public, which showcases the real-time grievances of ordinary citizens.
Taking to X, AAP’s Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj also launched a scathing attack on the BJP. He shared a full-page newspaper advertisement promoting the purchase of inverters, pointing to the irony of such ads appearing in the national capital. “Congratulations Delhi. Witness the miracle of the ‘four-engine government’ — a city where inverter shops had shut down under AAP, now features full-page advertisements for inverters,” Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote, underlining the collapse of basic infrastructure.
The video posted by Arvind Kejriwal features Delhi residents openly lamenting how under the AAP government, they never received electricity bills. However, since the BJP assumed power, bills have resumed, and tariffs have also increased. Residents expressed frustration over the severe water crisis that has plagued the city for the past month. “We get water only for half an hour, and not everyone receives it,” said one resident. “Under the AAP government, water supply was consistent. Now, we are facing extreme difficulty. BJP’s government has only worsened our problems.”
Women in the video vehemently called out the BJP for failing to deliver on its promises. “All of BJP’s promises are lies. They won’t fulfill even one. We have no expectations from this government,” one woman said. “We just want Arvind Kejriwal to return. In his government, we had no issues with basic services like water and electricity. Now we have to wait day and night for water. With the summer heat, water demand has increased but supply has dwindled. Sometimes, we sit up all night waiting, and when the water comes, people fight just to fill a few buckets.”
Another woman pointed out the financial burden that has returned with the BJP. “Last month my electricity bill was ₹800, this month it’s ₹600. We never had bills before,” she said. She slammed the BJP for not honouring its promise of free electricity up to 300 units. “They promised free electricity but haven’t given even one unit for free,” she added. “Modi ji didn’t say ‘remove poverty’, he said ‘remove the poor’ — and that’s exactly what they are doing.”
The women also criticised the BJP’s tokenism during elections. “During elections, BJP leaders flood the streets asking for votes and making grand promises. But once elected, they disappear. When Arvind Kejriwal was Chief Minister, he got real work done. He built roads and drains, ensuring there was no shortage of water. But today, we are forced to buy drinking water. Even cooking gas prices have gone up.”
The Aam Aadmi Party has called the BJP’s 100-day tenure as a catastrophe for the people of Delhi, with basic necessities like water, electricity, and cooking gas becoming luxuries for many. Through this video and the powerful testimonies of Delhiites, AAP has once again underlined the urgent need for responsible governance and the return of an administration that prioritises the common people.
