Former Delhi Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, held back-to-back ‘padyatra’ and jansabha(s) (public meetings) in Vinod Nagar Ward 198, Dakshinpuri Ward 164 and Sangam Vihar Ward 163, seeking support for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidates in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections.
The Delhi Assembly LoP said Delhiites have been pushed to the brink in just ten months under the BJP Government and will give a strong response in the upcoming polls, stating that broken roads, contaminated water, overflowing sewers and suffocating air are its ten-month report card, while the Arvind Kejriwal government provided free electricity, water, healthcare and free bus travel for women over ten years.
Former Delhi CM and AAP MLA Atishi stated, “The BJP had promised the people of Delhi that if there is a ‘double-engine’ government in the city, more work would be done. But today the situation in Delhi is very bad. Roads across the city, including in Vinod Nagar, are broken. People are suffering due to air pollution and sewage water is overflowing from sewer lines. Mohalla Clinics have been shut down in Delhi. People in Delhi are troubled and after voting for the BJP they are now regretting it. The BJP government has failed on every issue including water, electricity, roads and air pollution.”
Referring to the upcoming elections, Atishi said, “The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election is on 30 November. In the past ten months the BJP has destroyed Delhi and the people will answer for it. The so-called ‘four-engine’ BJP government has given broken roads to Delhi in ten months. No matter where you go in Delhi, every road is damaged. The entire country has seen the video of dirty water entering homes in Vinod Nagar. Because of the BJP MLA here, Vinod Nagar has become infamous across the country.”
Highlighting waterlogging and flooding, the senior AAP leader continued, “After even light rainfall, water reaches up to the knees and when it does not rain, sewage water fills the roads. In Delhi, the roads are damaged, the water is contaminated and even the air has become toxic. Across the country people are suffocating because of the BJP. Children in Delhi are unable to breathe. Small children are being admitted to hospitals in Delhi. This is the BJP government’s report card of the past ten months. In ten months the BJP has destroyed Delhi. This time the BJP must be given a strong response for their betrayal.”
She contrasted, “For ten years there was an Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi. To give common people a better life, Arvind Kejriwal worked round the clock during these ten years. The people of Delhi received free electricity, water, free treatment and free bus travel for women. But during the Delhi election the BJP conspired and made false promises to Delhiites. They misled, manipulated and threatened the people of Delhi. Now for ten months there has been a BJP government in Delhi. The people of Delhi can compare the work of the Aam Aadmi Party government and the BJP government and see what work the BJP has done in these ten months.”
Questioning the current administration, Atishi said, “Today in Delhi the roads are broken and inflated water bills have started coming. Power cuts have begun. Even the air in Delhi has become poisonous. What is this four-engine government doing? Why are there so many power cuts? Why are the roads broken? Why are Mohalla Clinics being shut down? Teachers are not available in government schools.”
She stated, “The BJP’s ministers and government are only busy filling their own pockets. They have no concern for the common people. Arvind Kejriwal worked day and night and forced the central BJP government to get work done but the BJP is only filling its pockets and has destroyed Delhi.”
