The Congress party has suffered a significant blow in Delhi’s Jangpura Assembly constituency. Senior Congress leader and Jangpura Assembly President, Mehtab Khan Raja, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday. He was formally inducted into the party by senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who welcomed him into the AAP family.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia stated that Mehtab Khan was deeply influenced by Arvind Kejriwal’s politics of development and governance, which led to his decision to switch sides. He further added that Mehtab Khan’s move signals a broader shift, suggesting that Congress supporters in Jangpura are now likely to vote entirely in favor of AAP.
Manish Sisodia emphasized that this was a momentous and joyous occasion for AAP, as its policies and Arvind Kejriwal’s governance continue to attract more leaders into the fold. Highlighting Mehtab Khan’s diverse background, Manish Sisodia noted that he is not just a politician but also a well-respected figure in Indian classical music, with his family belonging to the prestigious Delhi Gharana. He further acknowledged Mehtab Khan Raja as a renowned name in both politics and the music fraternity.
Manish Sisodia stated, “Mehtab Khan Raja believes it is crucial for everyone to come together in the elections to advance Delhi’s progress.” He emphasized that unity is necessary to prevent forces that promote division, conflict, and negativity from winning.
Manish Sisodia further noted that some people may feel uncertain due to their personal connections and traditional ties to Congress. “However, with Mehtab Khan Raja joining the Aam Aadmi Party, it sends a clear message that votes should be cast wisely and not wasted,” he added.
On this occasion, Mehtab Khan Raja said, “The Aam Aadmi Party is the only party that can truly drive Delhi’s development while ensuring inclusivity.” He highlighted that AAP thinks about everyone’s welfare, whereas other parties are merely trying to compete with its achievements.
He further stated that the people stand with AAP and will vote for the party because of its commitment to real progress. He also stressed the importance of collective efforts to make Jangpura a beautiful and thriving constituency.
