The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly demanded that BJP minister Kapil Mishra be sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment under blasphemy laws for committing an act of Beadbi (sacrilege) against the Sikh Guru Sahibs. AAP’s Chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar pointed out that even earlier, when an FIR was about to be registered against Kapil Mishra for inciting riots in Delhi, the BJP intervened to protect him and had the judge transferred. He was subsequently rewarded by being appointed as a minister.
AAP Chief’s Spokesperson stated that for this latest act, Kapil Mishra must face three years of imprisonment under blasphemy laws so that no BJP leader dares to repeat such actions. She further criticised the BJP for attempting to inflame religious sentiments and create discord among people to consolidate its political influence in Punjab.
Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters on Saturday, AAP Chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said that once again the BJP has followed its familiar pattern of provoking religious sentiments and creating communal discord to gain a foothold in Punjab. She said, “Two forensic reports have now come before the public, and both clearly state that Atishi did not use the word “Guru” at all. One of the forensic reports also states that the video tweeted by Kapil Mishra was doctored and tampered with.”
Priyanka Kakkar pointed out that Kapil Mishra has previously been seen attempting to provoke religious controversies. She stated, “The country witnessed how the BJP protected him, including by transferring a judge when an FIR was about to be filed. Time and again, it has been observed that the BJP promotes individuals who spread hatred and rewards them with ministerial positions and other high offices.”
The AAP Chief spokesperson emphasised that this time, Kapil Mishra must face the strictest possible punishment. She said, “He has committed a grave act of Beadbi. He neither understands Punjab, nor Punjabiyat, nor Sikh values. The words he inserted into the doctored video will have very serious consequences.”
She emphasised that under the blasphemy laws, he should be sentenced to three years in prison so that he cannot repeat such an act. “So that a strong message goes to all leaders who spread hatred that politics should focus on public issues,” stated Priyanka Kakkar.
Priyanka Kakkar also highlighted that the real issue is that, in BJP-ruled states in India in 2026, people are dying due to contaminated water. She said, “The BJP’s attempts to create unrest in Punjab through fake videos will not succeed. The BJP does not understand the sacrifices, culture, and values of Punjab.”
She further remarked, “The BJP does not understand what Sikhism and Punjabiyat truly mean.” Therefore, she urged the BJP to focus on real public issues, abandon hate-driven politics, and stop promoting leaders like Kapil Mishra. “Only then can the country progress,” she concluded.
