Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has announced that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP)’s legislative group will raise a series of urgent public issues during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly beginning 4th August. These issues reflect the growing discontent among Delhi’s residents over the BJP-led administration’s neglect, broken promises, and administrative failures across essential services.
In a statement, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi stated that the BJP must be held accountable for the inhumane demolition of jhuggis, a direct betrayal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-publicised promise of “Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan”. Instead of providing secure housing, the BJP Government is rendering thousands homeless without any rehabilitation—exposing the hollow nature of its so-called guarantees.
The Delhi Assembly LoP further highlighted the recent wave of arbitrary private school fee hikes, which are placing immense financial stress on middle-class families. “Parents are angry and helpless. The BJP Government is openly siding with private school managements while ignoring the plight of parents,” Atishi said.
On the issue of waterlogging across the capital, Atishi reminded the BJP of its repeated commitments to a flood-free Delhi. “The CM had assured there would be no waterlogging this year, yet visuals from across the city show knee-deep water even after mild rainfall. Where is the BJP’s drainage action plan now?” she asked.
The Delhi Assembly LoP also questioned the status of the promised ₹2,500 per month for every adult woman in Delhi—a guarantee the BJP had announced during the 2024 Assembly campaign. “Six months have passed. Where is the ₹2,500? Delhi’s women were promised dignity and financial independence. The BJP has conveniently forgotten them after winning power,” she said.
Atishi said that the AAP will also raise the issue of frequent power cuts and the alarming shutdown of Mohalla Clinics, which has left lakhs of residents without access to primary healthcare. “Power cuts are becoming routine and healthcare services are collapsing. The BJP has no roadmap, only headlines,” she asserted.
Atishi affirmed that the AAP will not remain silent in the face of this injustice. “From the streets to the Assembly, AAP will become the voice of Delhi’s poor and marginalised. Whether it is jhuggi demolitions, unaffordable school fees, or the collapse of public healthcare, we will stand with those who are being silenced and abandoned by the BJP government. Our fight is not just for accountability in the Assembly, but for justice on behalf of every Delhiite who feels betrayed,” she said.
Atishi took to’X’and wrote: “In 6 months of BJP’s government, Delhi has been ruined – power cuts, rising school fees, demolishing the homes of the poor, towing the cars of the middle class off the streets. That’s why BJP wants to avoid questions, and in the assembly session, MLAs were not given time to ask questions.”
BJP running scared of accountability, deliberately avoiding Question Hour: Atishi
LoP Atishi expressed serious concern over the absence of Question Hour in the upcoming Monsoon Session, calling it a deliberate move by the BJP to shield itself from scrutiny. “Question Hour is the most basic tool of accountability in any legislature. By ensuring that the session is short in duration—less than the 15 days required to submit questions for Question Hour—the BJP has deliberately shut the door on any attempt to expose its failures. Whether it’s jhuggi demolitions, waterlogging, or the status of the ₹2,500 promise to women—this government is running scared of answering to the people,” she said.
