In the wake of a brutal morning murder inside Malviya Nagar’s Vijay Mandal Park, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti tore into the BJP, highlighting that even morning walks are unsafe under its so-called ‘four-engine government’. He reminded that a woman was killed in the same park a few years ago, yet the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) took no steps for security, even though the park is hardly 50 meters away from the police station. Demanding immediate measures, he called for a police chowky to be established right at the park’s gate, asking how much more power BJP needs to control crime in the capital.
Pointing to the deteriorating law and order in the capital, senior AAP leader and former MLA from Malviya Nagar, Somnath Bharti, took to X and stated, “In Delhi, even morning walks are no longer safe. At Vijay Mandal Park in Sarvodaya Enclave, Begumpur—where a murder had taken place in broad daylight a few years ago—another incident occurred on Friday morning around 9:30 am. A local resident, Lakhpat Kataria (also known as Lucky), was first attacked with a bat and then shot 4-5 times. He was taken to the trauma centre, where he tragically passed away.”
Highlighting the park’s importance for the community, Somnath Bharti said, “Thousands of people from Malviya Nagar, Shivalik, MMTC, Adhchini, Sarvodaya Enclave, and Begumpur visit this park every day. After the earlier murder, I had requested the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to secure the park entrances, but nothing was done.“
He added, “Both the DDA and Delhi Police have been under BJP control for the past 11 years, and now the Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are also led by the BJP. If even with so much power, BJP cannot make Delhi safe from crime, then how much more power do they need? The crime situation in Delhi is becoming more serious with each passing day.”
