BJP’s betrayal of Delhi’s poor & marginalized is forcing its own leaders to walk away — and straight into the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) fold. In a powerful political comeback, sitting councillor Suman Tinku Rajora rejoined AAP, calling her switch to BJP the “biggest mistake” of her life and slamming the ruling party for snatching roofs from the poor. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj welcomed her and her husband into AAP by offering cap and ‘patka’.
Welcoming a returning leader into AAP, senior AAP leader and MCD House LoP Ankush Narang stated, “It is a matter of great happiness today that Suman Tinku Rajora, a sitting councillor from Ward No. 50, and her husband Tinku Rajora, have left the BJP and returned to the Aam Aadmi Party family.”
He continued, This is a moment of pride not just for us but for everyone who believes in the politics of honesty and service. It is encouraging to see elected representatives return to AAP, a party that has stood firmly as the voice of Delhi’s poor even while in opposition.”
Reflecting on her departure from BJP, Suman Tinku Rajora said, “I am very happy after returning to my family. A few months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. I deeply regret that decision. After the BJP formed the government, I witnessed how they treated the poor—promising ‘Jahan jhuggi, wahan makaam’, but instead evicting jhuggi dwellers, snatching the roofs from over their heads, and subjecting them to unbearable misery.”
She added, “Watching that injustice unfold made me feel sick with guilt. I realized how terrible a mistake I had made by joining the BJP. When the time came for the Chairman’s election, I tried to undo my mistake—I voted for the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate, and helped make the AAP candidate the Chairman. Only then did I find some peace of mind.”
Calling out the BJP’s disregard for the poor, she said, “The BJP is a party that does not support the poor—it wants to erase them from the roots. I truly believe the BJP should learn from Arvind Kejriwal. Whatever he says, he does. He stands by his word.”
