BJP MLA Harish Khurana abused and assaulted a doctor at Acharya Bhikshu Government Hospital, yet Delhi Police has not filed an FIR. AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj said the same MLA had earlier propagated a fake photo linking CM Rekha Gupta’s attacker to AAP, demanding CCTV footage be released and warning that AAP MLAs will approach the Police Commissioner if action is not taken.Addressing a press conference along with Burari MLA and Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha, AAP Delhi Unit President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “On Wednesday, the Chief Minister was allegedly assaulted. Aam Aadmi Party has demanded the strictest possible action against the accused. An attempt to murder case has been registered against him. The police arrested the accused on the spot, and today we have learnt that he has been sent to five days of police custody for interrogation.”Highlighting the incident at Acharya Bhikshu Government Hospital, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “When such an attack happens on a Chief Minister, the entire Delhi stands in sympathy. Today, the BJP’s Moti Nagar MLA Harish Khurana went to Acharya Bhikshu Government Hospital and at around 11 am in the Emergency and Casualty Block, he abused and physically assaulted a doctor on duty. The written complaint clearly records a physical assault. The doctor submitted this complaint to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent at 11:15 am. Yet, till Thursday 4 pm, no FIR has been registered in this matter.”Recalling similar past cases, he continued, “When an incident happened with a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, doctors across the country protested and went on strike. Even in Delhi, doctors struck work. At that time, I was the Health Minister, and it was decided that security guards are of no real use in hospitals. Whenever violence breaks out, guards simply flee. In this case too, the complaint mentions that the doctor was misbehaved with, physically attacked, and when he called for help, the security guards did not come to his aid.”On the question of hospital security, the AAP Delhi Unit President said, “At that time, the AAP government demanded that 10% CISF personnel be deployed in hospitals to assure doctors that their safety is taken seriously. But this was never implemented. AAP reiterates this demand, and doctors too have put it in writing in their complaint—that the CCTV footage of the hospital must be made public. The footage will clearly prove that the doctor was abused and assaulted without any reason.”Exposing Harish Khurana’s conduct, he revealed, “This is the same Harish Khurana who, on Wednesday, shared a fake photoshopped image showing the accused who attacked Rekha Gupta alongside AAP’s Gujarat MLA Gopal Italia. Several TV channels exposed the picture as completely fake. This is Harish Khurana’s behaviour. Just a day earlier, he circulated a false picture on social media linking an MLA with the accused, got caught, and yet he has not deleted that tweet till now.”Slamming the BJP MLA’s escalation, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Now this man has reached the next level of misbehaviour. He abuses, assaults, and manhandles a doctor on duty in a government hospital. Under the Centre-controlled Delhi Police, the situation is such that even after the doctor’s complaint, no FIR has been filed yet. We have tweeted about this issue and tagged the Delhi Police Commissioner. If the Commissioner fails to register an FIR, on Friday, a delegation of AAP MLAs will meet him and will not return until an FIR is registered.”Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The written complaint states that in the casualty block, the doctor was attending to some patients. People who came with Harish Khurana insisted that their patient be seen first instead. This led to abuse and a scuffle. This is clearly written in the doctor’s complaint.”
