Demanding a bill to be brought in to regulate coaching institutions across the country, the Aam Aadmi Party MPs on Tuesday held a demonstration on the Parliament premises.
The death of three IAS aspirants caused due to flooding in the basement of a coaching centre running at Rajinder Nagar in Delhi has caused a nationwide debate about the safety of the students at such coaching institutes that are being run in violation of the building bylaws across the country.
Senior AAP leaders and Rajya Sabha members Sanjay Singh, Dr Sandeep Pathak, ND Gupta and other MPs also raised slogans demanding the dismissal of Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) over the accident in Rajinder Nagar coaching centre. The MPs said despite repeated instructions from Delhi government ministers, officials did not do desilting, due to which this major accident happened in Rajinder Nagar. Coaching institutes across the country are running at their will and there is a dire need to frame rules and regulations for them.
The protest in the Parliament premises was led by Aam Aadmi Party senior leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh. The MPs raised slogans demanding dismissal of LG and regulation of coaching centres holding placards, “Sack LG”, “Regulate coaching centres”, “Down with Modi government”, “Implement Supreme Court order”, “BJP is responsible for the death of students” and “They kept harassing us while we kept working”.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said even after the order of the Supreme Court, the power of the Delhi government was snatched away. They are trying to run Delhi through LG. Even after multiple demands to the Centre, coaching institutes were not regulated, and the Rajinder Nagar incident is the result of that.
He further said our ministers tried to get the cleaning and desilting of Delhi’s drains done before the rains, but the officers did not follow the instructions. A video of this has also come in which our ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Gopal Rai and Imran Hussain are present. “But the officers are roaming freely because they have the support of the BJP and the LG. The dictatorship of the centre is responsible for this incident, which despite the decision of the bench of five judges of the Supreme Court, took the right to transfer and post the officers of Delhi. Also, the government is not regulating coaching centres. Today coaching centres have a free hand. Their name also comes in paper leaks. And they are running classes illegally even in the basement,” he said.
Sanjay Singh said this incident is very sad, but action should be taken against those who are responsible for this. “Our ministers were already talking about cleaning the drains, but still it was deliberately not allowed to happen so that the Delhi government could be defamed, and the lives of Delhiites could be made hell. Prime Minister Modi and LG are directly responsible for this,” he said.
