The BJP continues to face one setback after another ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. Inspired by the work of the AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Senior BJP Leader from East Delhi B. B. Tyagi joined the party on Monday. B.B. Tyagi is a former councilor who represented Laxmi Nagar twice in MCD. He also served two terms as the Standing Committee Chairman and was also BJP Leader of the House. He is the second senior BJP leader to join AAP this week after former MLA Bhram Singh Tanwar
This morning, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal met with B. B. Tyagi, and formally inducted him into the party. He took to X to share the news, and said, “I welcome B. B. Tyagi into the Aam Aadmi Party family.”
Senior AAP leader, Manish Sisodia, warmly welcomed B. B. Tyagi into the Aam Aadmi Party family as a valued addition to Arvind Kejriwal’s team, presenting him with the AAP’s patka. “I am delighted because I have known his work for a long time. He is a grounded leader; when I was working as a journalist living in his area, I saw firsthand how he served Delhiites,” he shared.
Manish Sisodia added, “I have always felt that B. B. Tyagi, with his approach to politics, truly belongs with AAP, especially under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, who has been working for the people for the past decade. AAP’s work directly benefits people, whether it’s building roads in unauthorised colonies, improving conditions in the shanties of Delhi, or addressing larger issues impacting daily lives.”
The former Deputy CM highlighted the core initiatives of Arvind Kejriwal’s governance model, which have deeply resonated with Delhiites. “This includes creating quality schools for children, lowering fees in both government and private schools, providing free medicines and diagnostic tests in hospitals, ensuring accessible healthcare, delivering 24-hour electricity, zeroing electricity bills, and free bus travel for women,” he said. “These are the initiatives that have endeared Arvind Kejriwal to the people, who see him not just as a leader but as a brother, son, friend, and family member who truly supports them.”
He further added, “Today, we are pleased to have B. B. Tyagi, a leader who shares these values, joining AAP in this mission. For both the party and me personally, it is exciting to see the AAP family growing with someone of his calibre. With significant experience in grassroots politics, he has served two terms as a councillor, chaired the Standing Committee for two years, and has been both Leader of the House in MCD and an MLA candidate. His experience will undoubtedly strengthen the party and help us bring our people-focused politics to even more areas across Delhi.”
Manish Sisodia stated, “Currently, Delhiites see two types of politics—one that focuses on work and another on obstruction. Arvind Kejriwal embodies the politics of delivering results, and that’s the kind of leadership people trust. As B.B. Tyagi said, people want leaders who provide good schools, reliable hospitals, relief from high electricity and bus fare costs, and well-maintained neighbourhood streets. Arvind Kejriwal meets these needs, which reflects the growing respect and affection he receives from the public.”
Senior AAP leader Durgesh Pathak shared his excitement about the recent wave of prominent figures joining the Aam Aadmi Party. “Today is a joyful day for AAP,” he remarked. “In the past few days, individuals who have consistently advocated for Delhi and its issues have joined our family. Just recently, Brahm Singh Tanwar became part of AAP, and now, continuing this momentum, B. B. Tyagi, a widely respected figure across Delhi, especially in East Delhi, is also joining us.”
Praising B.B. Tyagi’s life spent in public service, Durgesh Pathak stated, “He has twice served as a councillor from Laxmi Nagar, held a seat on the Standing Committee. His name and work are well-recognised, as he is always available to the people, tirelessly addressing their concerns. Having B. B. Tyagi with us brings immense joy to our family and strengthens our motivation to serve even better.”
Meanwhile, B. B. Tyagi shared his motivation for joining AAP, saying, “I had been with the BJP for a long time, but I was genuinely impressed by the Aam Aadmi Party’s efforts to uplift people and provide essential services. What does the average Delhiite need? Quality education for their children, which AAP, led by the Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, has arranged excellently. AAP is also providing free electricity, free water, free travel for women, and many other services.”
He continued, “This approach inspired me because I enjoy working with the public and am eager to serve them. I believe this party offers the best platform for making a meaningful impact. If I can positively affect even 10, 20, or 50 people, my decision to join will be worthwhile, adding to the work already underway. I joined AAP to actively engage with people and work alongside them,” he concluded.
