Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP for trying to win the Delhi elections through sheer ‘gundagardi’. Highlighting the surge in violence, he questioned the lawlessness in the national capital, where people are being assaulted in broad daylight while the police remain powerless.
The AAP Chief raised a stark question—who is the biggest goon in the country, the one even Delhi Police fears? Contrasting AAP’s governance, which gives Delhiites benefits worth ₹25,000 a month, with BJP’s politics of ‘gundagardi’, he warned that a “double-engine government” would crush the poor and middle class under its weight.
In a press conference, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated, “In the Delhi elections, the way ‘gundagardi’ is being unleashed one after another, the way destruction is taking place, it is not just the people of Delhi but the entire nation who are trying to understand the source of all this ‘gundagardi’.”
The AAP Supremo continued, “One question that everyone is asking and that is in everyone’s mind is—who is the biggest goon in this country, from whom all this ‘gundagardi’ is emanating?”
He further added, “Over the past few days, we have seen how people are being attacked, how AAP workers are being assaulted, how the public is being threatened. The public is being openly told—join the BJP, or else you will be dealt with. Openly, people are being beaten up, attacked, violence is happening, and the police are standing right there, watching everything. The police are helpless.
Arvind Kejriwal further added that the police are unable to do anything. It is not that they do not want to act, but when people standing next to the police ask them why they are not doing anything, they reply, “We have orders from above.”
“So, who is that goon in front of whom the Delhi Police trembles? Who is that goon in front of whom the Delhi Police stands helpless? Who is that goon whom the Delhi Police fears?” He asked.
The AAP Chief pointed out that yesterday’s incident—perhaps for the first time in an election—saw journalists being openly attacked. “In Delhi yesterday, I seven journalists were attacked. One had his head broken. They were detained at the police station all night. Those who carried out the attacks were allowed to escape, while the journalists who were covering the events were arrested. The goons assaulted them,” he added.
Arvind Kejriwal emphasized, “This is not some incident from a remote village. This happened just a kilometer away from Parliament. It happened just a kilometer away from the Supreme Court, and Election Commission. So, this nation wants to know—who is that goon? Who is the kingpin of all these goons to whom all the goons in the country report? The people are asking—who is that goon who has no fear of the country’s highest authorities?”
The AAP Head stated that during this election, women are being attacked. Women are not being spared. Female workers who are going door to door are being attacked. People are asking—who is that goon whom all the goons in the country take orders from and follow?
“For the past three or four days, we have been witnessing attacks on vehicles, vehicles being vandalized, and much of AAP’s campaign material being seized. Attacks are happening in different ways. But now, the public has made up its mind. Everything else is secondary—this time, their ‘gundagardi’ must be defeated,” he affirmed.
Arvind Kejriwal said that now it is clear—if this “double-engine” government comes to power, it will crush everything. It will spare no one. This “double-engine” will crush the entire public, the poor, and the middle class under its wheels.
“The most fundamental thing is safety and well-being. If people themselves are not safe, if their families are not safe, if they are being threatened with phone calls, then everything else becomes meaningless. The public has now realized that if this is the situation before elections, when they need our votes, what will happen after the elections?” Reasoned the AAP Supremo.
Arvind Kejriwal said, “This time, the people have two options—on one side, there is a party of decent people, and on the other side, there is open ‘gundagardi’. On one side, voting means gaining ₹25,000 per month in benefits; on the other side, it is pure ‘gundagardi’.”
“Many of their candidates are outright mafias in their regions. If they get elected, there will be not just the biggest goon in the country but also several goons under him, working together. The biggest goon and his gang of goons—what will they do to the people of Delhi? This is something to think about. This ‘gundagardi’ will not be tolerated by Delhi and the country. The people are decent. The people want to live in peace,” asserted the AAP Chief.
Arvind Kejriwal highlighted that our country’s freedom fighters made immense sacrifices to free this nation. Many were hanged so that democracy could thrive in this country, so that elections could be conducted, so that people could cast their votes and choose their government. People sacrificed their lives for fair and independent elections. “But today, the way the Election Commission has surrendered to the BJP raises a huge question. The Election Commission seems to have ceased to exist,” he added.
The AAP National Convenor said, “This is raising serious concerns in people’s minds. People’s thoughts cannot be controlled. It is only natural that people are now questioning—Rajiv Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner, is set to retire at the end of this month. What post-retirement position has been offered to him? What could be that position? What role could be so valuable that he is willing to mortgage the entire country? What position could be so lucrative that he is ready to destroy the democracy for which our freedom fighters made such sacrifices?”
“Governor’s post? President’s post? What could it be? What position could be worth putting the nation’s democracy at stake? I do not think there exists any such position,” he reasoned.
Addressing the CEC Rajiv Kumar, Arvind Kejriwal said, “With folded hands, I appeal to him—please fulfill your duty. Let go of your greed for a position. Abandon your desire for a post. You have already served for 40-45 years. This country has given you so much. But now, at the end of your career, do not mortgage this country for a position. Do not destroy the democracy of this nation.”
Arvind Kejriwal said, “We will do whatever it takes to save democracy, but under no circumstances will we let the country’s democracy bow before them. Today, the whole country is witnessing how every worker of the AAP is standing strong against their ‘gundagardi’. We have not bowed down. We are fighting against them. We are fighting for the country and its democracy.”
